Looking for some free virus software on the net, been playing with AVG but can't get it to update. Can anyone recommend another software product or know how to fix the update problem with AVG.
There has been some information regarding this issue posted before so any help will be vastly appreciated.

I use AVG which I think is good for what you pay for it!
Don't use the auto-update (I cannit get it to work either) but if you ferret around the site you can find the update area for the free version.....

Have been doing some work on a friends computer and installed AVG with no problems. When i asked it to update there was no issues and was done in a matter of seconds.Came back home and did exactly the same thing and have been pulling my hair out for a couple of hours.
This is why i posted this thread as the forum has quite a bit of putar knowledge.

Are you running a firewall?
AVG is great.

Yes i have a Norton firewall running.Just turned it off for a mo and was able to do the update. My friend is using a Macfee programme that was free with a computer mag (that is the only diff).
As far as i can see AVG is better than some of the stuff that will cost £30+ in the shops. :smoke: Will work with it for a while and change my firewall. There is plenty of stuff out there on the net to protect our putars.Ta for the help and i learned a bit more this eve.

Get Zonealarm. The Pro version is worth the extra but even the "vanilla" version (which is free) is the best software firewall around. Check the tech sites if you don't believ me .

If you want a quick up to date virus killer, try McAfee's 'Stinger':

vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

'Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system. Stinger utilizes next generation scan engine technology, including process scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.'

As long as the bast keeps it's settings through a reboot...

3 office computers - POS software - Zone alarm...

Zone alarm kept forgetting that the local net was friendly and kept protecting the computers from those nasty local pc's

Kerio solved the problem.

Now back to your currently scheduled program...
