All the time, you can get a new bike if you damage it, but you only have 1 back, protect it! If you are going to be racing at Crail this year it will be compulsary....no back protection no race.

Yes ..... no doubt........

BUT... make sure you buy the right one because road race ones are too long, and rub a hole in the top of your arse, because of the more upright riding position... i had a Knox road racing one , and it killed me to wear it for more than 20 mins , and then i had a lovely scab for two weeks .... sold that one & bought the touring one, which is about three inches shorter, which still more than does the job, and is dead comfy, and its turned two or three big off's into walk away's rather than dont get up's.....
If you cant get one under your leathers, buy new leathers......its that important..

I only wear mine for track days, and enthusiastic riding such as the NMRO.

I have a T-PRO, which gives me no problems except for the coccyx protector, which finds its way down the back of my underwear occaisionally.

I've got an Acerbis one for £89 from Rockets of Blackburn, used it for the first time today, under my sexy Arlen Ness Leathers (from SMR), had it on all day and it never gave me a problem! It's the one that has a kidney belt and shoulder straps that tighten up and hold it in place....Well worth the money.

Anyone want to bet a fiver on BigM managing a week of posting without mentioning the word 'Crail' once

BTW, always wear a back protector. I landed back first, backwards on a kerbstone afer deciding the Fireblade I was riding was tired and needed a lie down Walked away without any injury at all (apart from to my bank balance)

Quick someone send me a fiver!

BTW, M.

A genuine question - are you intending to run championship points on both days of a race weekend? Two day meets are big commitments which aren't always practical to get support for, paticuarly if the rider pool is fairly small. Remeber if the Irish Guy's werent there, the Edzell card would consist of around 30 riders.

Might be prudent to do something different on your Saturdays and run the Club championship (points wise) on the Sundays - just an opinion, feel free to ignore it if you want.

Anyway, back on topic...... WEAR A BACK PROTECTOR!!! ALWAYS!!!

Although road riding and racing are not the same thing, a recent europe wide study showed that back injuries are reasonably rare compared to other types of injury. The main injured parts are the bits that stick out: arms, legs & head. (according to the MAIDS report)

Many back injuries are not preventable through a back protector. Say you fall on you shoulder, you can damage your spine that way.

Hmmm, tell that to the poor sod in the wheel chair.

Fair enough, but many injuries are lessend by back protectors.

BTW, tobacco company scientists say theres no link between cancer and smoking - their opinion, but do you beleive them??

By that rationale, helmets aren't really needed either as in many, even most, accidents, the head never receives an impact either

I got a Acerbis vest back protector for xmas seems good.

After seeing what happened to Laurie Squirrell i think there shouldn't even be a question of do i wear a back protector or not in all honesty...
