avon azaro vs full wet in the rain

I need a new set of tyre for trackdays and hillclimbs that will get a small amount of road use in the winter. I tyres are for wet conditions and may be used in the dry when its cold.I was looking at the avon azaro-sp pro extreme because i can get a pair pretty cheap compared to the price off a set of race tyres . How do they compare to a full wet race tyre (i.e. not roar legal /very soft compound)i am not worried about rates of wear or road legal issues but i am interested in outright grip especially in the wet so any comments on the avons performance would be appreciated.

Is it not the case that once you've used any wet in the dry with some vigour, the out-right level of "wet grip" is going to be compromised somewhat cos you'll have taken the edges off the blocks?

That how it works with road racing wets anyway!

I take it you mean a worn tyre offers less grip which is obvious i am more concerened about the ammount water a new tyre displaces thus giving grip.If i turn up at an event and it's pissing it down then stops raining at lunch and i have to do a coulple of 50 second runs in the damp/dry i wont worry about the wear
