Its almost an original, based on their motorcross bike but who is to know which they wanted first second or for what ever reason.

They will be available or are being imported to UK at the beginning of 2005, offical that is. Not sure if you can blag an Italian from the factory yet.

i think they are doing it the right way actually, obviously they will be releasing this new toy to the public shortly (cant fucking wait cause i think the WR might get chopped for one) but they are racing it for a season first, to put it on the map and also iron out any problems before selling them. which lets face it is a lot beter than building it, flogging it, and then recalling most of them. the bike they use in the S1 is the larger 550 model.

if you go onto www.aprilia.com there are loads of stories and nice piccies....

just my little opinion.

Its a 450 v- twin. They are bringing out a for sale version next year I think. Yhey are also putting the lump into a sports bike as a replacement for the RS250, they expect it to be the same sort of weight as the RS. The tard will make around 70 bhp not sure what the expected power is for the sports bike, but then who cares!!!!!?? Maybe it will be the start of a new 250GP replacement class?? Next stop CB125 racing cos of 4 stroke only racing being allowed!!!!

I caught a bit of the action on men and motors earlier. I was amazed how well it was pullign away from the rest of the field. I then started shotuing at the TV.... "this is BS!".. this should be banned!" but maybe an uncalled for outburst.

How do you guys feel about a V-Twin taking over and dominating the big singles in the pack?

I reckon they'll be a few manufacturers saying that too !

Any improvement in engine technology is a bonus as far as I'm concerned, though I'll admit I'm not really into the racing side of SM.

Maybe a separate class for V-twins ?

'Paranoid' has such negative connotations, I prefer 'Healthy self-preservation instinct'.

A seperate V-twin class would mean its an Aprillia cup.
I don't know whether the manufacturers will push to have it banned in supermoto, but i bet my $10 that if they get on the pace in mx then you will see them all trying to ban it.

Nahh, don't ban it........

Just put more jumps and bumps on the track, that should fettle the fecker

Would make quite a cool road moto

Bet you would have to wait about a year for parts though

It's neither here nor there really, it's always been allowed and Aprilia have just been the first people to succeed and build a competitive bike. Good for them.

It may precipitate a rule change, but it'd be really interesting if it precipitated change such that a new class of bike started to appear.

An ultra-compact V-twin like the Aprilia may well turn out to be a VERY good road bike engine.

Im led to believe that both KTM and Husaberg have similar bikes out there already too

Its the future!

It was announced at the British GP that 250GP's will stay for definate until at least 2011!

As for the V-twin, I reckon it's the way for SM to go. You need revs to get power, and singles don't like being revved, the v-twin has smaller pistons, valves, rods, etc, so less reciprocating mass in the engine, therefore the potential to rev and produce more power, more reliably.

No doubt now that someone else has thought of it, the japs will do what they do best and copy it!
