So, in an urge to scratch a twenty five year old itch, I've been out and bought a trials bike

2001 Montesa 250cc two stroke jobbie. A big thankyou needs to go out to Lawman at this point for finding it for me, cheers bud

A riding spot I used to frequent as a kid is now a private trials practice venue so off I went and joined up and today was my first outing on my new steed. And what a good day. Ultra friendly, ultra helpful people who offered help and advice all through the day and even jetwashed my bike down at the end.

Riding one of these things is a bit of a revelation. I'd never ridden any sort of trials bike before so have nowt to compare my bike to, but the first thing you notice is the weight. Or lack of, to be more precise. Coupled with an unnatural steering lock and seemingly endless grip I had a ball today finding and conquering all sorts of lumps, bumps and climbs. Stuff that gave me nightmares trailriding my WR450 were a bit of cake today i.e. fallen tree trunks and off camber turns and traverses. Admittedly it was quite dry where I was, I'm sure it'll be a different story in the wet...

So anyway, I'm off to the French Alps on Tuesday. I'll be taking my new toy with me to sample some of the hills I'd been snowboarding down this last winter :smoke:

I'll keep you informed

Balance is a lot more important than peolple realise, especially when doing the nice slow balance point wheelies, a trials bike tunes in the body position and when you jump back on the big bike changes everything. Also kept the rossers of me back!!

That's what I done!

Spent 2hours a day on a montessa cota 315r
Not done a wheelie on the 404 for a whole month!

Went out today

awesome
