im an mot tester and your bike has to have ALL the lights or NONE of the lights, and it doesnt need a horn or mirrors either for a daylight mot. but it does need a full size number plate, helps keep the feds at bay. ive got a daylight use only r6 and ive never been pulled even in wales!!!

i had a daytime MOT with race can, small plate on a homemade bracket(nowhere to put full size one), no mirrors or indicators, 2 small LED rear lights lights.

i needed to add a rear brake light switch and take the normal exhaust in.

got told for full mot i needed a reflector and a headlight. done and i got a full mot.

i never used to ride at night but was very useful to have just in case.

Hi

Could anybody tell me what the legal seat height needs to be?

I am putting a 1981 Yamaha YZ50 on the road, I have the Dating Certificate and at the minute I am looking in to what tyres will fit the bill.

Thanks Iain..

Hello, i'm new here but i've just found this on Carole Nash's website, enjoy "To qualify for a daytime MOT your bike must “have neither front nor rear position lamps, or have such lamps permanently disconnected, painted over or masked.”  This applies to headlamps, position lamps and indicators. The situation with stop lamps is significantly more complicated. Machines do not need to have a stop lamp fitted if they cannot exceed 25mph, were first used before 1st January 1936 or were first used before 1st April 1986 and do not exceed 50cc. Those first used before 1st April 1986 must have a stop lamp that operates from at least one brake control and those used on or after that date must have a stop lamp operated from both brakes. There is an added if not widespread complication for bikes first used from 1st April 1986 which were approved with a stop lamp activated by one control. There were very few of these and test inspectors are instructed to fail a bike only if they are certain the stop lamp was designed to be operated by both brake controls and isn’t.

Your bike must be fitted with a rear reflector and an “audible warning device”, typically an electrical horn, which must be loud enough to be heard by another road user."

Hope this helps folks.

My Gixxer has a daylight MOT (or rather a Mot with an advisory notice). It has no light but does have a horn, full size number plate and a reflector. No mirrors or any lights. That said I have no plan to ride it on the road, it's just for Street Stocks 700s
