Southern 100

We are thinking of doing the Southern 100 in the Isle of Man next year and could do with some advice from anyone who has done it.

Is it any cheaper (ferry wise) than the TT?

Are there less coppers about (for hooning over the mountain and on other unrestricted roads on the Island)?

Any advice on campsites close to (walking distance) a few pubs etc.

Vantage points to watch the racing from?

Booking advice for ferry's etc.

Any other advice?

We have done the TT 3 times now over the last 23 years and are going to give the Island one more go before we permanently confine it to the "Been there done that" file. We thought of doing the Manx but the Southern 100 sounds as if it is less geared around taking every single penny from your wallet as the TT is.

Life is actually a game. The object of which is to see and do as many different things as you can, before your miserable little existence on this planet comes, all to soon, to an end. So spend a little less money on your next bike and use the saved cash to actually go somewhere other than Matlock, Devils Bridge or Box Hill.
Places on a world map are closer than you think and Bini Melal is lovely in the springtime!

Ive been to both and personally prefer the events other than the TT due to the Island being less crowded.

Cant answer all your points but:

ferries are generally a lot cheaper outside of the TT

far less Police activity

we used cheap hotel to stay but sure there is plenty of camping around the paddock at the Southern 100

Its quite a short circuit but lots of action so plenty of decent vantage points to watch from....

Give the NW200 or Ulster GP a try next!

Cheap hotels in the IOM? The last one we stayed in, in '89 was a guest house at £25 a night each for 4 of us in one room with a broken telly and flock wallpaper.

More info on cheap hotels would be great especially if they are walking distance to a town/village with pubs!
