I'm riding through to the south of spain starting 2nd July for 3 weeks and would appreciate some contacts/tips. We'll be starting from Bilbao then riding straight to Valencia, then from there riding round the east coast to Nerja and then back up through the middle to Granada and madrid then back to Bilbao.

I'm gathering some contacts that may be useful on the way (i.e. bike shops, hotels, restaurants) that are biker friendly, and any other tips that people think may be useful, such as routes to avoid or roads that are a must!

ta muchly peeps

Pretty much the whole of Spain is bike friendly.

They are big bike lovers.  I could not see you being turned away from anywhere, or looked down upon because you are on a bike.

The roads on the routes you have chosen should be superb.  Will be pretty hot in leathers at that time of year.

Up near Nerja there are classic  bike tours, a company that does rides out for the day, quading tours and a few off road enduro place.  Try one the scenery is stunning.

I´d recommend a ride out to El Chorro - just North of Malaga, or maybe to Ronda in land from Marbella.

Give me a shout if you need more details, or take a look at http://www.yougodo.com/Search.aspx?c=92&cc=ES&l=2513240&d=100

I know a few biker friendly places to stay - apartments if you are looking.  One in Nerja, one near Marbella and one in the hills above Nerja.

Cheers

Paul

If you are heading to Valencia from Bilbao, make sure you go through the Picos de Europa mountains, try going through potes to Riano, then pick up the road to lleida..at lleida pick up the road down to tortosa (C12) ..

If you have time on the way back when you get to the North coast have a look at Ribadasella in Asturias and maybe take a run up to Covadonga ( will be a run up and back as its sort of a dead end but well worth it..

A shorter ride from Nerja for a few hours is the Lake Viñuela road to Caserbermeja (sp?)

And up the Jete Otivar road just past Marina del Este (which is also a nice place to visit).

An expert in this area s Terry Maxwell at www.biketoursspain.com who does rides out in the area.
