Any idiot who bolts the pillion footpegs directly on to the swing-arm ought to be drowned at birth. Rather have no rear footpegs at all than subject your poor pillion to an insane lower-leg torture test.

Relax mate, the pillion footpegs are in fact mounted on a trussed brakett that is part of the main frame.  On the Thruxton, and other Bonneville models the low exhaust bolts to the other side of the same braket.  The footpeg does not go up and down with the swingarm on the new Thruxton/Scrambler/Bonneville bikes.

My wife and I often set out for trips on my 2006 scrambler.  It is one of the most comfortable bikes for the pillion.  The new Bonnies (includes the scrambler) are fantastic fun
