Talkback: Kawasaki ZZR-1100 (1990 - 2002)

I'd always wanted a ZZR-1100 ever since they first went into production and finally bought a 1997 model in 2005.  Surprisingly, it was my wife that persuaded me to get it on the grounds that if I didn't do it then I never would.  Now crippled with arthritis, I don't have it any more but I don't need to; I've enjoyed the pleasure of owning one of these ballistic missiles and have that emeory to hold for the rest of my life.  If you've never had one get one and if you've got one don't change it - you'll regret it.

  just been busted off my blade by a Stevie Wonder trained car driver bust my legs up pretty bad trying to get back on big bikes again sounds like zzr  my thing  one in pipeline i hope heres hoping

i got a zzr1100, needs engine work tho, was thinking maybe changing it into  else, streetfighter or whatever.. anyone got any ideas on different parts to use, fairing/headstock etc.....

Can anyone confirm that stat of a 24 litre tank? I've never put more than 19 litres in mine and it had been showing empty on the gauge for many ks by that time. I'm nervous of being left out in the backblocks of New Zealand with no petrol but if it really does have 24 litres, I can stop worrying so much.

Dont know if you have had an answer to your post but anyway,

 

I have a D1 1993 I can confirm that the tank holds 25lts, 24 of which are available before you hit reserve and 1 when on reserve. I can garuantee to get 185 mile (English miles that is) before I have to switch on to reserve on my bike at a steady 80 mph.

 

Dont believe the fule gauge, mine stays on full for 120 miles then drops like a stone over the next 65. I have got into the habit of restetting the trip metre each time I fill up so I know I have 185 miles befoer needing a refill.

The fuel gauge thing is a common complaint...mine is like everyone elses....120 odd mile it dosent move then goes to empty in 60 miles.anyone had problems with dirty oil...i changed n flushed mine...20 mile later its black again(yes i did the filter too),would like to say though i nspite of the niggley faults i love the bike,i had 2 vfr 800,s before and loved them,but this thing is on another planet performance wise,its as comfy,and dosent give me a numb fingers which doing motorway speeds did on the VFR,it handles as well and im stunned to say that the build quality and finish is v v close to the Honda(mines a D7),if your thinking of buying one go for it...they are fun and fabulous machines,i had a zzr600 many moons ago and that almost put me off as it refused to tip in and just wanted to go straght on...the 11 tips in lovely,a little push on the inside bar and over she goes,one thing to watch for is the oil cooler...as far as im aware...and i trawled the web..other than scrappers you can only get them off Kawasaki...i just paid £370,so if nothing else its a good bargaining point.glad i bought mine,my local service center love it.it gets stared at for all the right reasons and i just cant see me selling it,nothing out there dose what these do for the money,i bought it for a few months fun and sell it on...cant part with it now

Always wanted one since i test rode my mates back when I had a GSXR 750M. Yes it was that long ago. Well got my ZZR1100D6 almost 7 years ago after my Gixxer 6 K1 tried to kill me.Absolutely love it. The induction howl, the grunt from the engine, ( pull away from standstill in 4th),,,the top end rush, comfort, user friendliness. However, as its a 1998 model and we are now in 2013 the Zed is a bit long in the tooth. Replaced the calipers last year with GSXR750K1 models, work hard to keep the wheels clean and its a bit thirsty on petrol, ( throttle goes both ways though). My Zed is the Candy Apple Red and grey, and I love its looks. It looks mean.Would I change it, if I could not lose some of its weight then I would, but its younger brother, the 1400. My ZZR still goes like stink, never gets left behind by the quick boys but can struggle in the corners.....still crazy about it though.

I bought a zzr1100 d2 last year, first bike in 19 years and i love it.  It has excellent acceleration, corners really well once youre used to the.weight.  its stable at high speed and to be honest, i would far prefer to spend money on keeping it in tip top condition than buying a newer bike.  I cant afford the zx10r which i would like, but the z1000sx doesnt seem to be as loved as the good old zzr1100.   Today I raced a train and won, so thats nnotbad for a 20 year old bike.  In my opinion you cant beat the comfort, the sound, the looks its just a super super bike.
