i recently got knocked off my (silver) ZX12r (fookin bitch box driver), and i'm now fancying a VFR VTEC!!??, just cause i like the look of the silver one (it'll be the first Honda I've ever had).

Now, I've booked a test ride tomorrow on one, but I want to ask is, have any of you people tried/own one? As i'm worried that going from 190bhp to just 100 bhp will make the VFR feel gutless, so as to put me off it.

Sorry if I sound a bit pissed, but I am!!

hic!!
cheers

Don't do it. You'll miss the power. Search back a coupleof pages as I think it was Grommit that took a V-TEC for a spin.

I felt the V-tec felt gutless after an Aprilia Falco, - you definitely will.

Smooth though - you just have to cane the tits off it that's all.

Goose,

It's easy to sound like I rate the VFR as a crap bike - it isn't. In fact it's very, very nice but all the same it is ridiculously overrated by the press. Don't know why, but they just cream their pants every time they ride one, that's all. Can't see what the fuss is about personally.

Hope you enjoy a decent spin on one - I did but still think imho there is better out there...

The bigger RSV-engined Falco is a good deal quicker and handles about the same plus has bucket loads more character - something very important to me (I am a dyed-in-the-wool Buell fan!!). The Honda is built really well, obviously it's a Honda innit? But it's as ugly as sin and they are throwing what I, having ridden one, feel is completely unnecessary technology at something which a bigger motor would solve in one swoop. Also, just look at the state of the pipework under the engine and around the centrestand/swingarm. It's diabolical - cheap and nasty. I like to have a bike that makes me take one last lingering look at it before I shut the garage door - with the new VFR I wouldn't be able to wait to slam the door down.

The R1100S BM is not as quick in a straight line and would feel slightly crude in comparison but in terms of handling it'll run bloody rings around the Honda.

Well, i was going to suggest you read my review, but it seems you have, so that is good

From a 12R to the VFR, you are losing 400cubes, 70bhp and some torque for sure, but compared to the old VFR 800, the new one is much lighter, feels smaller and seems to steer quicker, and behave like a 600 supersports. The 12R will feel like a boat compared to the vtec (i guess?) but as Gromit said you may find it underpowered.

I would disagree about having to 'work it', keep it above 6000rpm and it bombs along happily (as do most bikes), it's smooth and friendly (plus it has ABS as an option...which for you may be a good or a bad thing? for me i like the sound of it)

well, gentlemen. On Friday I donned my Sam Brown belt, Dear Stalker, Harris Tweeds, Hush Puppies, Cravat and a Pipe, and took H***A VTECH out for an hour or so.......and......well......i.........well.........I quite liked it, ok, it was as dull as dishwater up to my 12-R in the area of performance (I took it along my favourite piece of test tarmac and only hit 130mph, were my 12 will do 180), however, it handled like a ZX6-R round the twisties, it was also extremely comfy (I am 40 something you know) and I even liked the V four throb!! (throb, throb, throb - when the vetch comes on song).

But the thing that I really noticed was that sport bike riders no longer gave me the usual passing nod, gasp!! However, BMW riders were now waving at me - which never happens on my 12!!

The only thing is, my ol'lady loved it (cause I made the mistake of letting her ride pillion) and now she wants me to buy one!

So, what do I do?
just get another 12
or by VIFFER
or get a 12 for me & a VIFFER for the ol'lady

So it isn't just me who thinks it handles like a 600 then

I knew the power would be dull compared to a 12R, but then i did say that

If you have the cash, keep the 12R, and buy the VFR for when you take the missus out, i wouldn't swap a 12R for a VFR, you may find you wished you hadn't

thanks for your comments mate, and yes, I've decided to take the plunge and buy a VFR800 VTEC with ABS just to keep the ol'lady happy, and I also think I might grow to like it anyhow, cause I do love the styling and I found the V4 VTEC power delivery to be quite appealing and different from anything else I've tried (twins, v-twins, triples, transverse 4's) and its just so easy to ride.

However, I'm gonna rebuild (if I can) or buy another 12R so I can still get my mega hoursepower and hyper speed fix (I think the Y2K 12R is a modern classic - the last of the 200 mph hyperbikes).

MERRY CHRISTMAS
