The Visordown Educational Bursary is paying the fees, but would you send them to a private school or do you believe fervently in the state system?

No.

You do get some good opportunities at private schools though. Go Karting and the like.

I work in, and believe in (fervently!) the state system. I would, without doubt, sent my own kids to private school

Lead me not into temptation for I can easily get there by myself xxxxxx

I once filmed a Science documentary for schools TV where we had to film in The Kings School in Canterbury.....V.Posh private school, up near the top of the old boys network.....I was stunned by how much better it was than the crappy state schools I attended and now my kids attend......if I could've afforded to, I would've sent my kids there without hesitation.....bloody expensive though....bout £20k a year!!

I've no doubt that one day I'll run out of amusing things to say in my signature line....but today is not that day!! :smoke:

Yep, private, so many more opportunities... For example, individual sciences over combined, individual subjects like metalwork / woodwork / electronics over combined CDT.

I went to both so have a good idea what i'm talking about.

If I had the money, and the kids, then yes.

I am not sure its the education that people are paying for when it comes to private education, its the circle of friends that may or may not get your kid into higher paid jobs.

I wouldn't send them to a faith school as I wouldn't want them buggered by a sandal wearing loner.

if i could afford the fees then yes i would. there are good teachers in all schools but in smaller classes then teachers are able to assist and go over work with individual children and the after school curriculum can be more extensive. also with private schools if your child is less able with putting info on paper you can find one that does more hands on learning to gain qualifications etc

Been to both private and state schools. Private all the way. More attention to the individual, greater resources, higher quality of teaching and far wider spectrum of education. If I could afford to send my kids to private schools I would, but sadly they are condemned to state education. At least my son is in the gifted category.

Yes did up to the age of 11 and now they both go to an all girls grammar school which has a fantastic reputation.

Went private ofr infants/juniors because when we looked at the local schoold they were desperately underfunded and had nowhere near the sense of community that the private school offered.

Went to both, Preparatory school up to age 12 and then local comprehensive. Without a doubt I would send my kids to private school (if I could afford it).

I dont think i would, although i know nothing about private schooling tbh.

I've always thought that any kid that attended private schooling would have no skills for facing the real world once he/she has graduated, and could quite likley become an MP, which imo, would be a very very bad thing...

Do you have fights in private schools, or do you just see who can round up numbers the fastest...?

Yes, if I could afford it.
Alternatively, I'd consider moving to France, or some other country where the state education system produces cleverer people.

If I could afford it (or if The Visordown Educational Bursary is paying) then yes I would, but not a boarding private school.

I'd be also be happy if she went to a Grammar school - I've been to both a Grammar and a co-ed (due to relcating areas and none of the former being in the area), and the teaching standards were much higher at the Grammar school.

Mind you, I'm currently just waiting to find out which Infant school she's getting a place at, so it's quite a way off yet

the posts here are a sad reflection of the state of state schools.
we should get tax breaks though for keeping the state systems class sizes below 50
