Worth goin to NEC Show?

No Honda, Italians thin on ground, is it worth going?

Just wondering if you think the NEC is worth it this year? £15 plus parking charge of £7 or is it up to £8 this year..?

No Honda stand and the VFR1200 is the one bike I'd like to see `in the metal', Harley out of it, not sure if any Italian brands attending beyond Moto GB's MV Agusta/Benelli range on show...

it all seems a fair chunk of money to see winter kit bargains, a few race bikes, classics and the possibility of the latest Norton Commando...

Why isn't there a two wheels version of Top Gear's MPH show, plenty of action, stunts, celeb riders doin a challenge or two, demo rides instead of boring static bike stands?

Get on with that idea MCIA, instead of farting about trying to persuade commuters to lash out five grand on ducking out of bus fares. Bikes aren't transport, they're supposed to be mad dangerous fun!

Plus the fact there is no ride out this year.

Unfortunately I didnt find that out till I'd purchased the ticket &%$£"*()*!!!!!

Still, there might be some good bargains on 2 piece leathers.

Hasn't been worth going for the last 10 years

There's a bend out there with your name on it. You've tamed it. You own it. And when you get there, you have to follow some old cunt in a Micra at 25mph. Fuck it, you'll just have to crack open the throttle and stuff him up the inside. As you clip the apex, stick your knee out and lay a huge darkie on the exit with the front wheel in the air. Oh yes. :burnout:

Won't be going, i have only been riding 3 years so should be in the group who'd keen as mustard to attend, but went for the last two years and without Honda for this year i will give it a miss. I am looking at the CB1000R or Gixer 750, not too impressed with the gear offers on last years show so just can't be bothered.

I've been going ever since it was at Olympia, but I won't be going this year (unless my mate comes up with the free tickets he reckons he can get). There were a few manufacturers missing last year and the bargains were thin on the ground (people moan that there are no bargains to be had, but I've always found some - last year was harder though). So it looks like I'll be giving it a break for the first time in donkeys' years.

If it wasn't so close to christmas I'd be booking a flight to Milan. Bet Honda turn up there

The thing i never prepared myself for at this type of show is the amount of walking or wheeling wounded covered in metal and bandages!!!  Could really put you off biking!! I tihnk they like going to choose there next weapon of body destruction!!

It's pants. Go to any of the BMF shows. lots of half priced gear.

We went this year saw top of the range leathers (last years designs) for less than half price. If it is gear you are looking for, BMF is the place to go.  If you want to look at bikes go to George White.

I didn't go last year, having force myself to go the year before and wishing I hadn't.  It was the first time since I started riding in 1990 I hadn't been.  I have yet to decide whether to go this year, but I'm not exactly over keen.

To be honest, none of the motor shows, 4 wheels or 2,  grab people's attention or enthusiasm like they used to.

Classic Under Achiever, Angry Loner, Sexual Inadequate, Emotional Cripple, Psychlothymia. I've tried them all.

Don’t waste your time or money on the NEC Show. It’s turned into a big indoor boot sale catering to suckers and not much more. If Honda and Harley can’t be bothered to use the NEC show as an opportunity to show off their new offerings, then perhaps we should think twice about attending.   If a motorcycle boot sale is what you are after there plenty of others coming up that cost less to attend.  If a real motorcycle show is what you’re after then go to the Milan or Cologne shows.  It will end up costing about the same as the NEC show. Easy Jet, Ryan Air, German Wings, Air Berlin, Air LIngus , and a few others all offer advance purchase air fares for less then it costs to fill the petrol tank on the car.  Book an early morning flight out and an evening return... make a day of it.

I wouldnt be going apart from the fact the tickets free, I went once before, enjoyed the day out but not particularly in a hury to do it again. I suppose theres a market for such a show but not for me, not very exiting/interesting.

I like the bike show. Under normal circumstances.

All the new bikes, loads of clobber, and dozens of fit burds wandering around. What's not to like?

But the entrance fee is getting a bit much, along with the parking, and if a company the size of Honda don't consider it important I wonder if it has a future. Perhaps a new venue might liven up trade a bit.

Venue is pretty good I think, just the organisers could gather more ticket sales if they put their minds to it.

Been for years, but last year was disappointing so this year without Honda or Harley it will be even worse, won't be going.

Yeah, I am thinking a bikes version of the free show that was in London Docklands this summer for cars, which Aprilia/Piaggio went to, is the way forward...if it's free admission, thousands will turn up, which means selling stand space to importers and retailers will be fairly easy.

Now Donington's effectively gone bust by losing the F1 circus, that would make a great springtime venue for the MCIA UK bike show. No scooters thanks, they are nowt to do with motorcycling and it MUST have on/off road demo rides, plus track sessions, stunt show etc. All that would put it in a different league from the BMF bikers boot sale..

...get on with it MCIA I say instead of faffing about wit campaigns aimed at commuters too scared to buy anything in case they lose their job next week.

Milano? Hmmm

Honda, Yamaha and a few other manufacturers have pulled out of Milan 09, in case anyone thinks of Ryanair-ing there.

If you do Ryanair, then you have to get a bus, or train to Milan from the airport they use, which is some 30 miles away from Milan...it isn't cheaper than going to the NEC, but Milan is a much bigger and better show. Loads of demo rides, outdoor stunt show, more one-off n concept bikes there too.

Bike shows need re-inventing, the old sportbike dominated market has fragmented, so something new is needed.

Trouble with shows is deals are available on the internet now so it's sometimes not worth the journey and a day off to get cheap kit. I just got a winter cover and a thatcham lock cheap at www.bikebits4you.com. Hardly worth going when you can get online as cheap.

05/11/2009 at 19:34

I too used to be an ardent NEC show goer. However it has got worse and worse, and more expensive. Last year my wife bought me tickets for my birthday, very disappointed, lasted two hours!!!!

Won't be going this year, save the money!!

I totally agree.

Beaulieu's Motorcycle World was good for a few years - but holding it outside in the summer inevitably meant people get wet and cold.

But the same size show indoors would be prohibitively expensive and the tickets would cost more....
