So, what's your fave film of all time and tell us why.
For me, it's The Ladykillers, a classic Ealing comedy, beautifully produced, shot and cast: Alec Guinness is sooo-perb as a sleazy "professor of music", actually the rains behind a gang of robbers. Add in to the mix Jack Warner in a cameo role as the local head of police (what else?), Danny Green as the "heavy", Herbert Lom and Peter Sellers as lesser members of the gang (could this be the precursor to their long-running antipathy in the Pink Panther series?) and you have a winner.
Having seen it on the telly a few times and bought it on video, I went to an Ealing Season at the Glasgow Film Theatre, spent a wonderful day watching several films back to back. Last one was The Ladykillers and it was standing room only. Gags which made me chuckle when watching on TV had all of us laughing out loud in the cinema. When Alec Guinness got his final comeuppance the place roared with laughter and rose to a standing ovation!
How powerful must a film be to still achieve that 50 years after it was made?
Right then, top that!
