What made you decide to own the bike you do ?

Sorry if this has been put up before but I cant remember it!

I chose my bike for a number of reasons:
I wanted a sports bike above any other style, something that looked 100mph standing still!
At the time (still?) the R1 was in my eyes the best looking bike out there that I could stretch to affording. (would have liked an RC45!!)
As it was so much money (for me) invested in a bike it had to be something that made me go weak at the knees every time I opened the garage door
For the first time ever I had the chance to own a (second hand) bike/car that was the current "top dog" while I had it, not one that was good ten years ago

So come on, what made you buy your "pride and joy"?

Always liked Italian bikes, I have owned four or five over the past twenty + years, this year I promised meself another.

I looked into Buying first a Ducati ST2/ST4, spent a year on the Ducati Mailing List, only to confirm my suspisions

Next gave carefull consideration to buying a Aprilla Falco or Mille, but Insurance Cost and the need to fit an Approved Alarm, put me of those.

And just by chance came across me present steed locally, and as I've owned one of its forbearers in the Past I bought it, cheap insurance and easy maintenance.

Even though I've had to Learn about Fuel Injection and re-place the EPROM Chip (Totally Crap as Standard), in less than a week after buying it, I love it.

My current bike (FZR400) kept hosing all over my prila 250 down the straights last year so I thought bollocks, if you can't beat 'em join 'em and bought it when it came up for sale. I now spank little two stroke arses down the straight bits too...

Certainly didn't buy it for its looks.

Because of the way it looked, that it was supposed to handle really well and the fact that on a provisional i could only have a 125cc

Still cant wait to get me test passed and get me a big 600 sports tho next year

Always loved twins, don't like lots of plastic, too tight to buy and run a Duke.

Hi,

I've just bought back the bike I traded in for my brand new R1150R just 4 weeks ago tomorrow.

It's a black R1100S - it's reliable, rapid in terms of big mileage at high speed in comfort, handles really well, has loads of grunt, sounds great with Remus race system and looks nice too. Serious amount of torque now it's BBPower-chipped. It ain't trendy which is even better AFAIC.

My R1150R was a lot of fun but was excrutiatingly uncomfortable - 3800 miles in 3 and a half weeks though but the S is better for me.

Tried a few other bikes:

VFR800 - very nearly did it for me, but the Beemer's quicker, handles a lot better and takes proper luggage. I can see why folks like the VFR though, each to their own I guess.

I do a lot of miles - 20k+ a year, all pleasure miles including going out for the hell of it, touring, the odd track day. The BM fits the bill - no chain, Telelever is AWESOME once you're used to it, image problem maybe, but that's just media bullshit which too many people fall for unfortunately. Great after-sales service too plus hi-resale. Still sellable with 50k on the odo.

Suits me.

I actually went to buy a Bandit12 - but my storm was sat next to it in nice Dream Machine paint! Bought it there and then...no test ride, no idea how it would go!!

I've since ridden a Bandit 12 and know I made the right choice

After i did my CBT it took me 4 months to find the bike i own know,,
I thought about ,and looked at a few aprilia rs 50's but thought i cant be done with sitting at 50 mph flat out so , that went out of the window.
Then i test rode another rs125(98 Rossi Rep)but it went bang on the test ride so i pushed it back to the shop and said no thanks lol
Next i looked at a few Cagiva Mito's which i think look the absolute dogs,,,id heard a few bad stories about them though like they tend to rust more than other bikes and they also cost around £250 to derestrict ,so all in all it would of cost about £3800 so i though sod that
By now i was getting fed up and just wanted a bloody bike,i found a g-plate Cagive Freccia for sale at £1300 so i test rode that and it went fucking well until it broke down and i had to push it 2 and a half miles back to the shop again(not the same shop as before),,so i did'nt buy that one
its NOW THE START OF FEBURARY AND STILL I HAVE NO BIKE -- i just happend to pop into the shop which i blew the rs125 at--they said they were selling another rs 125 for a customer of there's,,i promptly told them to get the bike and i would take it out for a test ride ..
Later that day i got the call i was waiting for and went and gave it a blast--it had only done 600 km and was in very good condition---i loved it and had to have it, i returned to the shop and haggled the price down a little and a few days later i picked it up

THATS IT LOL

Loved the look of it,the sound of it and the feel of it, and I have never had a v- twin before.

Hayabusa....loved its looks and I wanted to have THE fastest. I don't care that I can't ride it to its limit.
I get more bikers talking to me about the busa than anything else I've ever owned.
It's the very last of the true hooligan bikes.

Harley...always wanted one, never had the guts to buy one, turned 40 and thought "bollocks, I don't have to justify it to anyone".

BMW...Goldwings are waaay too expensive, wanted a big tourer, went to the test ride with an open mind and was a smitten kitten.

Smashing.

Sort of the opposite to you m8

1984 brand new GPZ900R...awesome (then)
1985 brand new GSXR750...wobbled and a lot slower than the 9
1986 brand new GSXR1100R..Quicker than the 750 but still not the 9.

Gave up 13 years.

Only had £4000 for bike, kit, the lot. Thought I could only afford an Exup. Saw my bike for £4000 with 4k miles on the clock, bought it, rode with £50 Lazer helmet jeans and trainers

NOW, 20000 miles later I love it, instead of going for the latest tackle I'm spending money on it, not an investment I know

Can't be assed cleaning it 'coz it's got scratches

because the biggest bike at work was a V max and i wanted more cc's.

Actually, i wanted the SP version but felt it kind of looked cheap, so bought the silver one, No regrets I love it , It managed to scare the sh1t out of my "god dad your boring " Son tonight coming back from watching his football team get thrashed 13-1!!!! 120mph towards Ballacraine, I ducked !!! (just for a split second ) Nearly took his head off !!! Even complained to his mother when we got in !!!!!!!!!.

I love it even more now !!!

Because I can.....

It rocks.

It scares grannies, makes kids cry and run away, it makes dogs bark, it breaks glass, it scares cagers, it smokes a lot, its uneconomical, no-one goes on the back of it...

I love it!!
