I have a mate of a mate, who is selling his RGV250, 91 - polished frame, polished wheels, braided lines - blowen motor, 750 dollars - thats about 220 quid.

A motor from a scrap yard would prob cost about another 700 - 800 dollars (220 - 250 quid).

The frame is sweet, the panels have near new paint on them.

I'm looking for a winter project, all I gotta do now is talk the missus around

Should I buy it?

If you're still going to Canada, that is.

Get your girl's mum to talk her into it, like the Tauranga thing for Xmas!

Yep still going to Canada, but that is still 12 months away, I'm moving back to Tauranga about Aug-Sep.

I'll have time on my hands in Tga though, so I'm thinking of things to keep me busy, I'm also hopeful of a good sale price for the RGV, when I sell it later on

Alot can happen in 12 months

Hows your trip plan going Kiwi?

The RGV's definitely a good idea then, Ross. You'll have loads of fun around the Coromandel on a little 250! Give Ricamortise a call when you get up there, cos he'll be keen for another riding buddy.

Trip plans are coming together nicely. Still got some stuff to organise, but it's looking great from where I'm standing right at the moment (at w*rk, thoroughly sick of the whole place!).

It's not a good idea to talk to me about w*rk at the mo'. My team leader got an earful yesterday morning about all sorts of things (PMT & tiredness from shift work made my rant a bit confusing, but he got the main points).

This all just means that I'm going to appreciate my holiday that much more.

Ross, I'd buy the RGV. Where/when are you going in Canada? If you are going to be anywhere near Montreal, you had better let me buy you a pint, or ten.

Rossco.

Well I bought the RGV, after finding a motor.

I rung around all the wreckers, got told by a few that I was pushing my luck, then found one that had just been binned the other day, got it for a great price.

Rossco, on the Canada thing, I'll be starting off in Calgary, staying with some friends. I havn't looked at the distance to Montreal, but you would probably have a better idea

I'll try and catch up, with as many VDers, SBW & bikenet peeps as I can.

I have driven Montreal to Vancouver, and back, about four times , and it is a good 40 hours of driving to Calgary from Montreal. My personal record was 45 hours from Montreal to Banff (Banff is 100 kms west of Calgary), and that was with two buddies in a minivan and our longest stop was for gas, a pizza, and a pitcher of beer (in freaking Regina, no less). If you fly, it is a lot quicker . Let me know when you are coming down (up, whatever), and I will e-mail you may home, cell, and pager numbers just in case you make it over to Montreal. There is no better city in North America (probably in the world) in the summer time than Montreal. We have movie, comedy, jazz, international fireworks, and Caribbean festivals, just to name a few, plus the Grand Prix and CART races and tons of motorcycle races as well. The best time to be here is during the couple of weeks of the Jazz Festival/Grand Prix. Talk about partying!!!

Canada is a freaking big country. You are bringing the dog over? I was under the impression that animals had to be quarantined for quite a while before you could bring them into the country.

Getting the dog to Canada is quite easy from NZ, no quarantine, cause NZ has less disease, just have to pay for the flight and vet checks.

If I take her back to NZ, she is quarantined for 5 1/2 weeks (can be on own property) so it's not that bad

I've got to visit Winipeg, to see my grandads memorial, his plaque is on a memorial dedicated to ww2 airforce crew.

Also have to see old friends of the family, scattered around the place, so will be seeing a bit of the country.

(And when I say old, most were friends of the grandparents)
