Anyone ridden the wall?

Is there anywhere where you can learn, or give it a go?

We saw the Wall at Carters Steam Fair in Reading a couple of years ago. The chap told us that he was the only one in the UK so chances are if you wanted to learn in this country, you'd have to go to him. Unfortunately the wall's not mentioned on Carter's web site and I can't remember the name of the chap.

If at first you don't succeed, tell everyone you did anyway.

Someones doing it on the new silly BBC gap bits between programs at the moment. I dunno if that helps but they must have found somebody who does it .

The guy at the steam fairs and the one on the Beeb links is Ken Fox. he is an old mate of mine. I and both my kids have been up on the wall, but only sat in front of him on one of the Indians!

In Bangkok there is a "Wall of Death" sex show. Seriously.

The missus tried to take photos of it a couple of years ago but the camera was taken off her and the pics deleted by the heavies in there.

People fall off it occasionally, can be quite nasty as there's nowhere to go. Apparantly it's quite easy to loose control as you have no horizon to judge your balance by whilst up there. If you watch the riders you'll see they're mostly looking "up" a long way rather than forwards.

There was one that said it was for sale, at the BMF from memory, a few years back. Cripseys I think. I was tempted in a moment of madness, 'til I reminded myself that the thrill of being a stunt hero would be tempered by living like a sideshow pikey.

I'm kind of with Mike Wilde here- it's all wall and no death

Yeah, but try doing it standing on the front leaf spring with your arms out wide or sidesaddle either side no hands or numerous other tricks The biggest danger is getting hit by your own bike if you come off which is why they always have a catcher in the middle, to drag the rider clear.

Bikers were always asking Ken if they could have a go before the show, but hardly any asked after theyd seen it. There is a lot of bullshit in showmanship, but there is a lot of skill and hard work in Ken's case too.
