Tyre suggestions, please

I'm soon going to need a pair of good commuting tyres for the VFR. I would go for BT020's, but they tend to square off a bit too much before they are totally worn out. (Have a BT010/020 combo at the moment).

Any suggestions for good, grippy but hard-wearing tyres, that aren't going to square off too much? (Unfortunately, most of the journey into Oxford is along dead-straight roads or dual carriageway - not much opportunity for making my chicken-strips smaller).

Pirelli Diablo Strada
Go for these rather than the Metzeler Roadtec, which seem to have an odd feeling from the front when tipping in.

Avon AZZARO AV 45/46 combo.

I got 9k out of my last rear on a Blackbird and i don't ride like a girl.
Good for commuting and superb in the dry, not the best in the wet but hey, its a trade off isn't it.

What about Avon ST's? Been recommended by windychris. Anybody else tried 'em?

I had an Azzaro II rear. It was a liability in the wet - spinning up all over the place. Never again.

How about Michelin Pilot Powers? Don't know about wear, but fab performance. Better than 010s.

Avon STs are the 45/46s, as reccomended above.
Last well, good in the dry, rear not-so-good in the wet.

Why not look at getting a "pack of 3" AV49/50 from FWR for £189.
OK, so they wn't last as well, but you'll have a spare rear when the 1st one wears out... and they're much better in the wet than the 45/46

I find the Diablo's don't give quite as much feel as the Z6's in the wet (but it's marginal), and seem to be lasting quite well too. Not really had an issue with the turn in on the Z6's personally.

But yeah - to answer your Question BigD - Z6s or Diablo Stradas are what I'd recommend.

Well, with both Animal and RB going for the Pirelli Diablo Stradas, I can't get a more respected opinion than that.

Stradas it is then.

Next recommendation request: A good while-U-wait tyre dealer/fitter in the Bucks. (Wycombe/Aylesbury) area.

I've got Diablo Stradas on my VFR atm and I'm extremely pleased with them.

Have you thought of Michelin Macadams. I use them and get very good milage out of them. Very grippy even in the wet. Inspire more confidence than the Diablo's I had on my gixxer where the front always felt like it was about to give way. Nearly as good as the 207's it came with, but they wore out to quick

I've not yet tried the Stradas- probably next time- but the Roadtecs have been absolutely superb for me in all weathers, not quite up to trackdays mind. Conti Road Attacks get excellent reviews for this use too, if you want to try a different profile from the Metzeler/Pirelli carcass...
