just when you thought you could not get enough of this type of thread :P

I own a cbr6, currently wearing d208's- however, the rear has a slow puncture and i now need to replace them.

This is the 2nd set of 208's i've had, and i fancy a change, any recommendations please?

depends what your gonna do - if its trackstuff - metzeler rennsports or pirelli corsa's offer great grip - the new bridgestone 010's are supposed to be pretty good too although I've never used them - if your doing touring etc then someone else'll have to answer

sorry for not making that clearer- it's not for track. I have never done a track day in my life, and can't see it happening any time soon.

It's for every day use- commuting/going out for a blast (passed adders :P ) and just generally bimbling about on.

I just stuck some Bridgestone BT012SS on my RR and they are the same as the ones I had on my K2 GSXR. They grip like a bastard in the wet and the dry, last a good 4k miles even if you give it moderate caning and they feel most pleasantly confidence inspiring.

There are newer tyres, but I am not sure if the 014 are specific for certain bikes. Still, I have them on mine and they are still cracking

i have a pair of 020's on.

My front tyre has lasted 10k miles, and the sidewalls are begining to get baldy, appose to the middle part :P pretty grippy as tyres go

I would have suggested Mac 90's, very long lasting and more then suitable for your style of riding ( unless you make an habit of passing Adders ) then I would go for slicks !

4K?
You must ride like my mum drives.
My blade had 012 on, the slightly harder compound, and they lasted about 2K tops.

New as in "been around for ages" and "being replaced by BT014"?

There is not much point in taking tyre advice off 99% of riders, esp those on here you havent even met.
What one person thinks is the best tyre ever made I can guarantee others will think is utter shite.
Best way to get a recommendation for a tyre is to see what a mate who rides in a similar way to you uses and recommends.

i had 020's before, and just could not get on with them at all on the CBR. Infact, the only time i came off (twice) was when she was wearing those shoes

get advise off someone who rides like me? Mr.Magoo it is then :x

My housemate runs his zx6r on 208's and loves them, but was thinking of getting a set of Metzlers (???) erm, there. That's my knowledge summed up.

Thanks to all for the advise :x

Well I probably dont ride like you, but I probably want the same things from a tyre as you, i.e. enough grip in the dry AND wet and some longevity.

The two tyres I would use on a sports bike are BT010 and Avon 49/50 sp.

One of the latest issues of a bike magazine have just done a tyre review. This is the order they rated them at -

joint 1st - Pirelli Diablo, Metzeler Sportec M1
3rd) Bridgestone BT014
4th) Dunlop D208
5th) Michelin Pilot Power
6th) Avon Azaro SP Sport

Quite a good review, worth reading I think.

Hey, it was winter!

Although that doesnt necessarily render your observation invalid even though I am not the same standard as you (and the bike isnt a blade either )

I have exactly the same dilemma.... I had 207s on my CBR6FS and crashed it twice when cold (my fault) and never really felt comfortable again... Put on 208s (2nd set now) and it feels much better. However.... should I try something else? Bridgstone 010 or 012s are the front runners.....

Having said all that - a special offer on a pair of 208s (£189 fitted) and a competition for an R6 may sway me to stay with what I know....

Silly to lessen my odds of winning by telling everyone about it though!

ye okay - I stand corrected - I meant the new Bridgestones that took over from the 010's but couldn't remember what they were called - I stand by the metzelers & pirellis though - but only as a far as track riding is concerned - wouldn't imagine they would be hard wearing enough for the road & would probably square off too quick but anyhoo I barely ever ride on the road anymore these days - the last decent road tyre I tried was the Avon Azaros when they first came out - one idea tho of a cheap way of trying different types of tyres is buy 2nd hand ones from racers & trackdayers - when I was running metzelers last year on a cbr600 I only used them for 4 races and then flogged em cheap - that equates to about 48 miles on a circuit like Cadwell
