This is why I get annoyed with all the eco rubbish over here

ok so we have to spend loads of money, get loads of extra taxes etc etc blah blah to save the environment when things like this are going on:
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/6528853.stm

But oh no the UK will do our bit no matter how much it costs

Yep, its pathetic. Quite what Blair etc think the little old UK can do in relation to world climate change is a wonder, when you think the US and China (toname just two) refuse to sign up to the same emissions targets and how how many times the size?

It's a joke, frankly - setting an example is one thing but, as ever, the US will just do what they want anyway and there's no way Bush is gonna sign them up to a strict emissions target whe their quest for supremacy and all things unhealthy is so strong. Likewise, China isn't about to stop its industrial revolution that it sees as its ticket onto the world stage when we used exactly the same methods to get there ourselves some 50+ years ago!!

Oh, and I wonder if the palladium they produce contributes more toxins to the atmosphere that it saves during its role in catalytic converters, given how inefficient the damn things are anyway?!

How are we supposed to convince other countries if we're just as bad at polluting as they are?

Besides, maybe the UK alone isn't that big a player in terms of actual environmental impact, but we are a very big player in terms of trade and financial impact. And it's not just the UK either, it'll eventually be the whole EU shouting about this sort of stuff.

IM not saying dont set a good example but this country is overly obsessed with it at the moment, everything seems to be about looking good to the eco types. Like all these extra taxes hitting the normal person when they could target business a lot more.

Tax tax tax tax tax taxt etc.

Lemmings bought it hook line, sinker and copy of angling times.

Its also a useful diversion from the real issues when needed.

As for saving the planet, is fucked anyway. Even if we all burned a coal fire 24/7 our carbon output wouldnt make a dent in the bigger nations pollution statistics.

Ironically, what we do here in the UK will have no bearing on the eventual resolution of the issue.

Quite how everyone at large is so incapable of realising this, is beyond me frankly.

The earth gets hot and cools down over long periods of time - thats what it does - at present we are in the warming up part of its cycle.

Do you think that the government will give up the global warming cash cow

Ah yes, the magic 'business tax' that alleviates the burden from the shoulders of Joe & Josephine public.

Except that all businesses will do - all businesses can do - is pass the burden back to their customers. Either directly to the 'normal person' or via a chain of intermediaries.

I am all for being "green" but its all a con when it comes to green tax's!

Sort everything out that costs nothing to sort like,,,
shops leaving there lights on at night when there closed how much energy will that save? ban TV companys from making tv's with standby if its such a big deal.

If Tax on Cars that use alot a fuel is put up. then make bikes and small cars tax free. Or make it alot cheaper for small engine bikes/cars

the list is endless of things they can do that will cost us nothing. But as they dont the true reason for "green" tax is simple good way of making a few £££ of us.

I read somewhere that China are planning on building a new coal fired power station every week for the next 20 years.

We should literally spend our environment taxes in other countries...

Screwd.
