Ditto what Dodgygeezer said, apart from the cold bits. Knackered from a mixture of a continual drink fest for the last 3 weeks, various relations, and drinking myself stupid on christmas day (only starting to feel back to normal now !!).

Oh, and also can't be arsed with New Years eve - it's always an anti climax. So this year I shall walk a couple of minutes up the road, have a quick pint and then watch the firework display over the city castle.

If I can be arsed.....

The expats out here in Calif start celebrating at 12pm GMT (4pm local time) at the Brit pubs & make a valiant effort to keep going until after 12pm PST.
I avoid them like the plague.
Anywho, probably stay in, woke up with a bad chest from a bunch of woodbutchery yesterday without a dust mask & feel like I just smoked 50 woodbines. ARSE!

If I wanted to make a life-long career out of working with the mentally retarded I would have gone into Special Education or opened a Harley Davidson dealership

Lunchtime through to lunchtime? That's some drinking.

I think you missed my point -

He says 12pm, not 12am. Everywhere I've ever been 12am is midnight, 12pm is the middle of the day.

Celebrating New years at lunchtime seems a bit odd .

apologize, it's living alongside these yanks for 18 years is making me dumber

Ok, drinking from 4pm local time (midnight in the UK) until midnight local time. 8 hours of the razz... Altho given the absolute dirth of any alcohol in US beer, 8 hours of Yank pisswater is about the same as 3 pints of Abbott...
When I first emigrated, Americans were amazed at my ability to sink an entire case of beer (24cans) & still be completely sober. It tooks YEARS of hard work to lose my tolerance & get it to near to the usual US standard of getting blottto on 12-15 (US) pints.
To put it into perspective, I once got pulled by the CHP for 80+ on a freeway after 10 pints & breezed thru the soberiety check with no+ problem at all. Cop then told me to "go home, & ride a bit slower"

Ended up driving up to the top of Box Hill on me tod and watching what resembled a rerun of the Blitz over a fog-wreathed South Downs.

I'd do it again, actually.
