Should we all fit road legal exhausts ?

Surely it makes sense ?

Not to alienate us any more from the car drivers and general public ?

To make is less likely to have the Coppers pull us over ?

To save scaring all the animals in the countryside ?

I can't think of a single reason (other than, it sounds nice) to have a loud exhaust fitted to the bike ?

So people can hear me coming. That's one of the reasons I've got one, amongst others

Performance? (Negligable amount, and only really worth it with a full system but still...)

I'm waiting on my Titanium exhaust to arrive for my bike. Been standard up until now.

For the last 4-5 years I've driven cars with aftermarket exhausts, My last car (track toy) had a completely straight through system with a carbon fibre Motorbike can at the back. Was bloody loud, I once had a small child walk past me on the pavement with his hands over his ears lol. Was Barly legal for the track and failed an MOT because of it!

However, If people don't like loud exhausts, that is their problem. I for one love a nice loud exhaust

Moan louder, you won't need the exhaust then.

Exactly why I didn't go out and spend £300 on a replacement.

Depends how noisy it is, Rich on here had an SP1 with a custom pipe, fuck me sounded like a bomb going off, not nice at all. Pretty sure it would damage the riders hearing in a short space of time.

Hence why I always use the standard pipe where available. My goose came with a custom pipe, but tbh it may aswell have not been on as it was hideously loud. I also put the original number plate on - fuck all point attracting attention to yourself from plod for "performance gains" on a bike that only just did 100 mph.

Fuck them. A deer sent me flying over the handlebars and down the road before, glad I killed the fucking thing on impact.

On sports bikes it might be worth it for a performance increase, but only for the track surely?

I just got a Quill T3 recently, looks lovely, lightweight, apparently all the benefits of a race can (not that I or most of us would notice) but nice and civilised most of the way thru the rev range. Perfect solution imho.

i have a full bespoke stainless system on mine with titanium end can [i actually have t put my baffle back in to get on track...] on a bike that redlines at 15 000 rpm. needless t say i always wear ear plugs.

i kno it's inconsiderate to others around me but if they wont look to see my bright headlight, my bright clothing and well... me! then i fukin want them to hear me just before i appear through their side window.

so NO! i will not be quiet. i will not be forced to have stupid boring silencers. i WILL however be getting through and MOT because the lovely gentleman who made it stamped it as road legal. whahaha! coppers can stop me if they like, im all legal technically and i will flutter my eyes and send them on their way

ok.... sorry... rant over, im a lil excitable today...

I appreciate the sound of a nice motor like most enthusiasts do. However, I'd also like to be able to ride/drive through the National Parks without a bunch of politicos using noise as a cheap excuse to get us banned from them.

If this is anything other than stinky bait, your scoring a big own goal

The noise that my duke kicks up with akros on it is one of the reasons I brought it,it sounds shit with standard pipes on it.The pipes weighed in at a healthy 110.1 Dbs at Brands on Friday

I've got a full Yoshi race system on my GSXR. Strangely it's not very loud but does sound better, it looks better too, makes the bike go faster and spits bloody great flames every now and then.

It's not leaving.

Stay Classy.

Personally I think loud pipes alienate many non bikers, although my Ducati has its OEM exhaust I think its louder than my DR350, which has a competition exhaust and no baffles to speak of. If I can find a decent OEM or quiet exhaust for the DR350 that doesnt cost a fortune I will fit one.

I try not to rev any bike too much when others are about especially pedestrians and animals.

I dont believe that loud exhausts prevent SMIDSY accidents so the only benefit is that the rider enjoys the increased noise or change in note, IMO that makes it selfish.

Mine is pretty loud. As original Triumphs with straight-through lagged tube silencers were.

24/12/2007 at 11:27
End cans are certainly a waste of time but sometimes it is worthwhile to fit a replacement system .

For example on the Z1000 where you can go to a 4 into 1 sytem to replace those god awful looking stock pipes

No need for it to be loud though and i really dont see the point in non road legal systems or those that make your ears bleed.

Not bait at all, I am generally a very selfish and uncaring person, Comes from living in a shit hole.

Stuck a can on the buell and regreted it (loudest bike ive heard!)
Have a can on the zx6, but only because it was on there when i got it. The baffles stay in at al times, im done with loud bikes......

I like the stealthiness of my thundercat with stock can on. Sure I loved the sound of it with an aftermarket can but on balance I prefer the stock.
24/12/2007 at 12:03
My SV had a race pipe on it and I loved the sound. The fazer I replaced it with was sold with the std can fitted. I had anticipated that the first thing I'd do would be to ditch it for something noisy.... however I've found I quite like the civilised rapidity of my new toy so for now I'm staying in stealth mode.

Now....where's that smell of wee coming from
