Blue Owl has got me thinking about Sheffield. Has it recovered from it's down days? Is there any new industry there?

It's in the process of being yuppified Bill - went not so long ago, the area around Neepsend is a bit of a laugh. 20 years ago no-one even wanted to look at the River Don, much less swim in it (stomach pump compulsory), now they have riverside bars!!!

Canal basin has also been yuppified

Think most of the jobs are in service industries though, there's not much heavy stuff left - tis why me old fella got out when he did

Was the Full Monty fairly accurate in depicting Sheffield at the time?

The steel industry the world over has taken a big hit from crap steel being produced in China (I believe) and India (?). They were redoing a bridge here and using crap steel which had to be replaced after the engineers found it to be substandard.

The true indicator of a decline of civilisation. Breweries closing.

I love the smell of hops in the morning.

Best large Doner I ever had was from a gaff near City Hall.

Kelvin flats have been pulled down which must have improved things and Bar one's had a refit. Apart from that is still seems to be exactly the same as when i left 7 years ago.

biggest shock I got when I went back to sheffield was that the hole in the road was filled in......
