Recommend me some music

....please!

I put a CD on this morning, it occurred to me it's been at least a week since I did that. And when I did it, I looked around at all the CDs and, whilst there were about 30 or 40 I really wanted to listen to, none of them were new

On reflection, it's been about 3 months since bought a CD I think - this is unheard of for me

I don't hold with all that "Good old days" stuff; always a believer there's good music being produced somewhere at all times - just seems I've fallen out of knowing where to find it

So, please, recommend me some stuff I'll try on download and buy if I like it

My tastes are pretty catholic, most genres with the exception of heavy rock (which I find pompous) I'll give a go. Not a fan (as you may have noticed) of the current rash of Keaneplay copyists, shoegazing for the noughties, innit?

Owt apart from those considered then

Thanks
G

Something different

Amelliana Torrini (spelling) - Fishermans Woman (2004)

Nice and mellow, lovely voice.

They only have 3 records, and one of those is U2.

Coldplay's "Clocks" was played every morning at 07:36 every morning for about six months, it used to drive me mental that they stuck to the playlist schedule that closely.

If you want to listen to opera, then listen to proper opera. Not this fluffed up swanky modern pop-chart nonsense...

I'm STILL recommending "Antics" by Interpol to anyone who'll listen, just because it's the best album I've bought in the past year. Still can't stop listening to it. Give that a whirl!

The other two are by Snow Patrol and Queen.

For something a little different, anything by Jeremy Soule... he's done the sountracks to loads of computer games (dont let this put you off, its a gooood thing!), and I believe he did some of the score for Harry Potter too... (my geek knowledge fails me here)

Calm down chazzy, you'll have a coronary. I got the CD for me birfday...then saw them live on TV. Was like listening to 4, younger, nicer looking versions of Pavarotti. Marvellous stuff. I bet DG is d/loading it frantically as we speak...

You'll be thinking of G4 I expect

Thanks all, just ordered some stuff

First up, some of the recs:

Go! Team - this sounds excellent, bought it
Interpol - sounds OK too, bought that one
Emiliana Torrini - could have been my kind of thing, but her voice was a bit annoying. Don't think so
Doves - yep, knew I should have got that anyway, so bought that
Vines, Zutons, Air, weezer - already had them, weezer & Zutons my fave out of that lot
Annie - didn't do owt for me, too lightweight

Bought a couple of old things I've been meaning to get for ages (but forgot about until I started thinking about buying, funny that innit?) - an old Outkast album (Aquimini FWIW) and a Parliament one

Also downloaded a few tracks from a couple of folky oriented albums and liked those, so bought 'em - Bright Eyes & Rufus Wainwright

Bought the Bravery's album an' all, cos they impressed me on Jools Holland last Autumn

That'll do for now. Told ya my tastes were catholic. Still not sure I'm "ready" for QOTSA though

Can I possibly recommend The Killers and Bloc Party's albums?

I am not much into rock music or whatever you'd pigeonhole this as, but I found it good, unassuming upbeat rock, with a half decent variation in sounds throughout each of the albums. In particular I've found the first and last tracks on the Bloc Party album to be the best, and on listening you'll note their styles to be totally different. The Killers album was more even, I found, the first half or so is very good, the 2nd half a bit take-it-or-leave-it, but nothing I'd call "bad".

Yeah, I tried those as well TBH. They made it onto the "Almost, but not quite" list for today. Which means if I can be arsed to go into Cambridge and Fopp have them on pretty cheap, I'll probably get 'em

Killers sounded quite good but a bit samey, Bloc Party, dunno......Part of me hears a bit of a bandwagon about this sort of stuff and I'm a contrary bugger
