If you like the Go! Team one and you haven't got it already then I suggest the Avalanches too.

Am ambivalent over the Bloc Party album, one or two good tracks and I like the overall sound but its a bit samey...

Kasabian? The bandwagon have got this one right IMO
stellastarr (been likened to the Pixies but I'm not sure, good though)

Oh aye, and a blast from the past if QOTSA are OTT, Rocket From The Crypt. Ferkin hilarious album is Scream Dracula Scream

anyhoo, you've done your shopping

Yeah, I tried those as well TBH. They made it onto the "Almost, but not quite" list for today. Which means if I can be arsed to go into Cambridge and Fopp have them on pretty cheap, I'll probably get 'em

Killers sounded quite good but a bit samey, Bloc Party, dunno......Part of me hears a bit of a bandwagon about this sort of stuff and I'm a contrary bugger

Well, I downloaded the Razorlight album recently, and could I find any reviews of it? Could I bugger, all I could find was reviews of some bloke called Pete something who'd done something to his mates or something like that. I find NME, etc., type reviews self-important, self-referencing and utterly unrelated to the actual music. Still, I enjoyed the album, although it did get a bit stale after a couple of weeks.

Rufus Wainwright

Good choice, was about to suggest that one. Which album? "Want One" has more stand out tracks than "Want Two" IMO allthough both are great. Huge ambitous arrangements and what a voice!

Also, don't know if it's your thing but Brian Wilson's "Smile" is a fantastic piece of work.

Not particularly new but really inventive is The Flaming Lips "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots". They've also done a compilation album for the "Late Night Tales" series. I'm not normally a fan of compilations but this is very good with an eclectic mix spanning Brian Ferry to Aphex Twin via Bjork

Also not new, but a sublime EP of really beautifull modern guitar acoustic songs is Jim O'Rourke's "Halfway to a Threeway". If you can find a copy, It'll be well worth it.

Yeah

Guess it comes down to interpretation of "pompous" as much as owt else

Histrionics, overblown pretensions to being "real" or "tough" all comes under that tag to me. My objection to U2 is rooted in the same dislikes TBH

Aye, one of my most remembered gigs is RFTC at TJ's in Newport, Wales, about 1994 (I think)

Excellent night

Not sure if it's up your strasse, but I must say young Mikey chav is superb on A Grand Don't Come For Free. It's Shakespeare for the new millenium IMHO.

Have that, m8

That and Outkast were the albums of 2004 I reckon. Wasn't a very good vintage, mind you, but then that's why I asked the question - I must be missing summat

You are missing something, ROCK!

I'd rather listen to a Qualcast than Outcast.

Too provincial for my tastes.

Give Josh Rouse a try... a bit hit and miss, but when he does hit it's spot on. "1972" is his best album.

Do you know what people are mostly? Bastards! Bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bubble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.
I'm fairly sure if they took porn off the internet, there'd only be one website left, and it'd be called "Bring back the porn!"

Kasabian. As has been said, the bandwagon is right.

Never got what all the fuss was about. Kind of funny but wears thin fairly quickly, too novelty for me.

Does it have to be music from the present century ? Most of what I like is from the last couple of decades of the previous one

Bought Beck's 'Guido' today. First impressions pretty good. Back to basics Beck. You know what you're getting but it's good all the same.

I used to be well into my rock and metal until I reached this exact same conclusion, which strangely enough was shortly after Linkin Park became popular...

I won't bother recommending you what I listen to now though, it's pretty... erm... weird...

I see a boundary. I eat that boundary and wash it down with a steaming hot cup of rules...
