so on a serious note..how come his licence was revoked on medical grounds do you think?? over the year I have met several one armed and one legged riders, and unless ho lost his due to something like diabetes I didn't think it was a problem as long as he could demonstrate full control/suitable modifications.???

I've no idea.

I had to do a re-test in 1988, all they seemed concerned about was that I was able to operate the back brake.

I was asked to use hand signals approaching junctions so that they could see that i was only using the rear brake.

When I got full licence back it had written on it. "Full category D motorcycle with controls that can be convientley and correctly operated by you".

I wasn't happy about the wording and pointed out that I had re taken my test on a motorcycle with no modifications.

I received a new licence with nothing any different to anyone else.

It may be different if this guy has an above the knee amputation.

As a serious answer, its a poorly reported article by VD. Was his licence revoked because he only has one leg or has he any other medical issues?

Was his insurance void because he had a revoked licence or did he just not bother insuring his bike?

The way I read it was that he has been riding since 2001 totally oblivious to that he was doing anything wrong and if thats the case, it seems a bit strong stopping someone from riding just because they have a limb missing. I'm sure, on a scoot, trike or adapted bike that a prosthetic leg wouldn't stop someone riding safely.

Edit: I'm a bloddy slow typer

Thanks...Agree about the lack of detail..as is often the case, onlyhalf the story gets told, just thought it would be interesting to hear whether John  had any restrictions etc,...Might reassure a few people if they have accidents etc..

As far as I can tell:

If you are in any way disabled you have to prove you can ride in a possibly modified vehicle.

If you are disabled and can ride in an unmodified vehicle you may have to prove your ability to do so.

If you have a modified vehicle then you have to prove you aren't a chav.

All these proofs should be provided before you are allowed on the road, and if you are on the road you should be able to provide them when asked by officials.

(Officials under the law include: Police Officers, PCSOs', members of the BNP, passing members off the public over the age of 4 (birth certificate not required))

As a follow up:

No matter how disabled you are, if you can ride/drive an unmodified vehicle why should your licence state otherwise?

Got ONE LEG and HALF AN ARM but ABLE TO DRIVE A REAL CAR WITHOUT MODIFICATION.

Does that seem fairer than:

Passed driving test. (?)
