Why is it that MCN has such a bad rep on VD?
It seems that most people slate it whereas I think it is ok for what it is - a general bike paper, which lightly covers most aspects of biking. What's wrong with that???

Nothing, you're as entitled to your opinion as anyone else here mate.

I think the issue is it can be a little sensationalist in a Daily Mail "we're doomed!" kinda way.

If your whole experience of bikes, is covered by what's in MCN, then i'm not surprised you like it.

IMO, very single minded, on the whole, and the writers are waaaaay too easy to wind up on here. Guess that's journos for you, timid bunch that they are.

I don't mind the idea of a general paper or indeed most of what it covers, even if I'm not particularly interested in it

The bits I do object to are the "news features" which are, as has been said, incredibly sensationalist and, frankly, usually bullshit where it concerns legislation which is allegedly in the pipeline

It happens so often that it points to one of two things: EITHER the stories are incredibly badly researched which is crap journalism, OR they are knowingly printing bullshit for the sake of sensationalist coverage and to punt up the number of half-literate replies they get to print in their woeful letters page

They're so wrong, so often that it can't be any other way. Either one of these reasons leaves a nasty taste in the mouth and deserves abuse TBH

I do agree with you there - It does sometimes go over the top, with its 'rallying-and-uniting-the-biker-masses-against-an-evil-governmental-plot' sensationalism....

It is a weekly mag, so they have to make news out of next to nothing on some occasions (IMO). I believe that Autocar suffers with the same thing at times. They do get all excited about diesel spills and how a speed camera van didn;t do anything about it for four hrs...Yeah, like thats what they are designed to sit on the roadside and do!!!

Doesn't stop me buying the mag occasionally. I wouldn't have it on a subscription though. Everyone to their own. I actually moved over here from the old MCN forum. I prefer this one. I have managed to get some good technical info on here.

Now that is also true!`That was one reason why I stopped buying Performance bikes - sick to death with their 600 / 750 / 1000 / 1200+ shootouts.
" We put four of the top 1000cc bikes against each other to find out which is the ultimate machine....." - Don't fucking bother, it's the same as it was three weeks ago unless one of the big four have brought out a revamped model whereupon that one will be the fastest, allowing you do lap Donington .02 seconds faster......

yeah, and the latest model of any GSCBYZFZXRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR is always so much better than the last version of that model. And for the most part the latest new bike is the best.

I was telephone interviewed for their GSXR special at late notice. I had a 92 water cooled 750. I mentioned this several times and was quoted mentioning something about the water cooling. They said as we can't photo your bike we'll use a library photo, fine says I. Rag comes out and they've stuck a 91 oil cooled bike next to my interview Making me look like I'm a donley and don't even know how my own bike was cooled.
