i'm heading to london in the morning for 3 days with the missus and son (11). doin a couple of shows at the west end and prob the london eye, dungeons, bus tour, general sight seeing etc. what else is there to do 'off the beaten track' with the family?
i lived there in the late 80s for a few years but all i saw was the inside of pubs and the back end of cars while sitting in traffic jams so i've no real ideas.

Book the eye beforehand, it saves a fuck of a lot of hanging about and waiting in a queue. The eye is impressive, especialy when you look down. Pray no one farts in the capsule. For a grand day out I suggest starting at Camden market, buy mad food and and trinkets, walk down by the canal to Regents Park visiting pubs on the way, have a picnic, go to the zoo then get a taxi back to Camden and have a BBQ on your balcony. Erm... Some of this only applies if you live in Camden.

[edit] Took that pic on an ancient 1999 HP C200 camera. It boasts "1 Megapixel" on the side, and it's about the size and weight of a terraced house. Still takes good pics though.

Maritime Museum at Greenwich is good for the boy and since DLR got extended there is easy and fairly quick to get to.

"Gentlemen! You can't fight in here! This is the War Room!" Where can I get fud?
Where can I sign up as an organ grinder?

Time Out still the one to get & have a peek in the Sunday Times Culture bit.

Well you really do have to do St Pauls (those blue badge wearing guides are pretty cool & well informed) & another thumbs up for a river cruise job.

Imperial War Museum's good for kids too and not far from the Eye.

Agree with Greenwich and taking DLR through Canary Wharf to get there is fairly impressive - try to get to the front of the train. Can also get off at Island Gardens and walk through the foot tunnel to Greenwich.
