Is this cost of fitting an alarm reasonable??

I need to upgrade my DataTool Duo immobiliser by getting a System 21 alarm fitted to it. This will make the system a Thatcham Cat 1 system and give me (and my insurance company) more peace of mind...

I've just contact Chiswick Honda for a quote for fitting the unit and they replied with this:

I have listed the cost below for fitting the alarm upgrade:

DataTool System 21 = £199.75 incl VAT
Labour to install = £117.00 incl VAT
Total Cost = £316.95

Does that sound reasonable?

I had found the System 21 unit for sale at £260 on the web, so their price is much better than that. But £117 for installing an alarm... It can't be more than half an hour's work... Or is that how much you would expect to spend on labour??

tbh thats roughly the standard price.

Most alarms cost around £300 to be supplied and dealer fitted...

Really? Why?

I went it there to test drive their Honda Civic - which I was considering getting on my motability scheme. They were really good and supportive. Gave me lovely cup of coffee. Gave me a test drive in the Civic and the Jazz - I just turned up and was on the road within 10 minutes! I was very impressed. But then I've never dealt with them servicing/aftercare wise...

I've just found a site (Elite Motorcycles) - who'll do it for £250. Will give 'em a call in a moment...

I wouldn't scrimp on the fitting costs...you NEED it to work properly and be confident that the leccy work is top quality.

They really are the devils britches when the act up. (Having just spent £200 quid having one removed...trust me on this. One of the big costs though...was because it had been installed properly...you wouldn't believe what had to be removed to get at the connections into the ignition circuit. Can't see the average tea leaf taking the fairing and tank off to bypass the immobiliser!!)

Any deterrent is a good thing IMO, sure they can be annoying but my bike wouldn't be around if it didn't have one
They managed to smash the ground anchor in the garage, had just started to wheel it around the side of the house when the datatool let rip. Two guys run off to a van out front and disappear and I keep my bike. Worked for me.

whoooo ooo ooooo smash it up!!!!!
