My village is too small for a big shop.

THere's only a village shop and a barbers in the village 6-7 miles to civilisation.

It's an interesting point, maybe the tide is turning.
Locally (Cambridge) there's a campaign to prevent Tescos opening a 'local' store amongst what has become a well-known shopping parade of largely independent traders.

Unfortunately most of the venom is directed solely at Tesco, the other chains are almost worse if you ask me, for doing the same thing (as Tesco) but with even less style (see Co-Op, Budgens, Somerfield etc).
