If a designer.................

could design a bike, without having to worry about aesthetics, simply on maximum capability of function, what would it look like, do you think ? Would it look just like a race bike 'cos that's what a race bike is supposed to be ? or would it look more like the butt-ugly 'Busa (accomplished and fast, I know, but still fell out of the ugly tree, hit every ugly branch on the way down, fell into an ugly hole and got covered with ugly dung). No offence intended. Hee hee. I know it would depend on what function you wanted the thing to perform, but lets say we are talking sports bikes........

Don't tell the Hyabusa owners

I just sent them this email......

***Are you all mad????

That is without doubt the most stupid looking m'cycle that I've ever seen.

.....and the bit in "Technical Information" about 0-60mph being arguably the quickest of any production motorcycle available' is just a lie. There is no way that your "70+ hp" single cylinder monstrosity weighing 320lbs will out-accelerate any bike I can think of. If it does then Suzuki and their Hyabusa team would like to know how you did it!!!!!
Similarly Honda and their CBR1100XX Blackbird, Kawasaki and their ZX12-R, and Yamaha and their R1 team will also probably be dying to steal your technology.

Steven Bradley.
P.S. I was being ironic with my last statement. (look it up)***

was that a bit ott?

There was an orgri cartoon about this once.

Technically, people responsible for coming up with aesthetic shapes are known as stylists. Whereas people who come up with working packages are design engineers.

It;s usually the most unlikely thing that puts a limit of design style, and that's manufacturability.

Re that feet forward thing, I think there's something in this months Bike magazine.....

I imagine that you won't be the first stupid, narrow minded, self-righteous git to contact them, no.

How can you 'lie' about a suggestion?

BTW Alligator performance specification from Cycle World -

1/4 mi - 11.87 @108.83mph

0 - 60 - 3.1sec.

whooaaahhh there nelly.

If I were to say that you were probably the most pedantic over-reacting blinkered prick, would you say that was a lie??

I pointed out that there is no way that a single cylinder 70bhp machine weighing 145 kg dry could possibly be one of the quickest accelerating bikes in production never mind arguably the quickest.

Now piss off, theres a good chap.

will someone bite??

07/02/2003 at 13:17
They tested this is Bike last month and I think they reported that it would out accelerate a CBR600 up to 100mph, still uglier than bucketful of offal though

is that physically possible???
(the acceleration bit, i mean)

Where's A2Y when you need him. Tha6t still doesn't make it probably the quickest accelerating production bike. There are a few bikes which will out run a CBR6

I didn't read the article in depth but I would imagine it's more to do with traction and gearing than pure power to weight

People whine endlessly that there's no revolution in bike design anymore, just evolution. Then someone does something radically different and people while endlessly.

It would seem this coutries national pastime is wanting everything to change so it's better, and still be the same so they don't have to get used to anything new.

BTW, Derry. Re acceleration? A 125 can be geared to beat a jet powered drag bike off the lights, up to about 5 mph.

Guily of "It's got a smaller engine than mine, can't possibly do anything better" Blah blah - fingers in ears.

Bet they are laughing at your email.
