How often do you wash your kit?

Well? I washed my fabric jacket and trousers a few weeks ago: trousers after 15 months and jacket after 21 months, of near daily use. I like ripe brie, but I prefer it on my plate.

How about you?

It's a motorcycle, Jim, but not as we know it

Wash?

Being honest here - my kit doesnt usually last long enough to warrant being washed.

I washed my Bering jacket not long after it was new as it got covered in the discharge from a Coach on the M11 and then I washed it about 6000 miles later.

Levvers with non-removable lining, never been washed in five-odd years. The t-shirt gets a bit whiffy, but I try to take something to change into, or wear it on top of another top.

Do you just shove the jacket in the machine ?

My jacket has no washing instructions on it so I haven't washed it, i was worried about the armour

if the armours removable take it out.

i think u have to have it on a low temp wash and u cant stick em in the tumble dryer.

u have to let it dry naturally i think and dont stick it on the radiator. the radiator affects the waterproofing i think. someone said it about gloves tho so they mite be different.

hold on.... this is what my Hein Gericke jacket says....

remove armour before washing.
delicate cycle.
mild detergent.
no fabric conditioner.
max tem 30C.
rinse thoroughly
wring with care.
close zips and velcro enclosures before washing.
do not iron.
do not dry clean.
do not tumble dry.
do not bleach.
treat regulary with suitable impregnation spray( thats a bit much... )

btw my washing instructions were in one of the inside pockets.

Ah a new hiding place

Agree with what you put but I found that the water proofing does suffer after a wash unless its "impregnated" again And for that reason my jacket is now 2 years old and never been washed (unless its rained), the removable lining on the other hand gets a quarterly wash. I treat my fabric trousers the same as the jacket, my leather trousers get a sort of annual thing via the dry cleaners

The rain does my leathers, and my spidi jackets too new.but to be honest the rain will most likely do that as well.

Dirty waterproofed materials are more likely to 'leak' as the dirt causes the water to collect and not ball up and roll off and it will eventually soak into the garment. So a gentle wash is usually beneficial to waterproofing.

For proofed items - If you are going to use a machine make sure there is no remains of washing powder left in the machine - as the strong detergent will strip the waterproofing off!

Didn't work for me - so now I wash them by hand in the bath using soap flakes once they get grubby. Both my Aerostich and wifes HG kit still as waterproof as new. Nothing has needed to be reproofed.
