Even if it was only half as many as the official reports say then it was still an awful swet of events.....personally I suspect that there will be considerable confusion over the numbers but IMO it definitely happened..there is ample documentation fromthe germans that prove that there was a concerted and deliberate policy of killing and disposing of the Jews and other races they disliked...

To get an idea of the scale of nazi atrocities I recommend a visit to Oradour sur Glane..if that doesnt convince you in one small event then nothing will

Thats about my opinion as well gedge, but how many do you think died of natural causes taking into account how many there were in a camp and the lack of food due to the fact that a war was going on and towards the end very few trains or trucks could move around without being bloen up?

How is it natural to keep people caged up in concentration camps and then starve them to death?

If anything, and going off how efficient the Germans normally are i would say the numbers currently known about today may well be under the real figure. There are Holocaust deniers of course just like there are flat earthers..... or even '' the moon is made of swiss cheesers''.

 They just have to be tolerated and then ignored.

I didn't mean natural causes in the true sense, but not gassed! I am not a denier just curious how many people don't agree with the numbers?

What would be the purpose of exaggerating the numbers?

 What happened was truly evil and even if the numbers had been much lower would still have been shocking.

The word holocaust means to sacrifice, massacre or slaughter, the term is used to describe systematic slaughter of over 6 million political, gypsy, Russians and Jewish prisoner by the Nazi's as the final solution after they failed to deport them, which incidentally where asylum laws first came about in Europe.

I believe the holocaust was a tragic waste of life and an act of pure evil by people who were meant to be civilised, lets not forget throughout history there have been many " Holocausts " carried out, by all spectrum's of religions and political believes.

What upsets me about the Jewish element and it isnt so much from the people who were prisoners, but some Jews make a big deal out the fact that most of the people who died were Jews instead of it being a tragic waste of life, somehow it cheapens it, for the actual people who survived I'm sure they just see families destroyed and people killed of all.

Agreed, almost!

I think that had such an appalling act been perpetrated on Scottish people or those sharing the same beliefs as me etc within a generation of mine then, I too would be a bit miffed to say the least.

Being as the majority of victims were Jewish isn't it no surprise that those are the ones whose voice is heard loudest?

I do agree with you panda 18 but the non Jewish victims should get the same amount of sympathy and recognition as the Jews, as speedy says it was a tragic waste for all.

What about the other mass killing, the millions that died under Stalin in labour camps, the ethnic Chechen almost driven to annihilation.  The million Armenians that died at the hands of the Turks, the Tutsi that were ethnically cleansed by the Hutu tribe and the list goes on.

Yes the Jews have suffered, it would be sick to deny this, children, women and men died horribly either from exposure, starvation, execution and medical experiments out of a horror film, but Jews who havent even been in the holocaust have used it to score political points and educationally made it looks as if it were only Jews were there.

This is one of the rare times where I am compelled to agree with speedy. Hardly ever is there mention in the media of the tens of millions of Russians, Africans, or Asians who have perished at the whim of others.  If the majority of the holocaust victims were anything other than people of the Jewish faith, who now, just happen to own or control over half of the world's news media, do you think we would  be relentlessly reminded of these events they have coined  "The Holocaust"?

For centuries man has been killing man..the big difference with the holocaust ( IMO) is that the system used was devised clinically and cynically to kill  whole races..All the others were examples of terrible brutality an the fact that Speedy can list them shows they havent been forgotten..but the fact is they were pretty much man against man..whereas the Nazis took the killing to a whole new level ..

Not only that but the events occurred in a war in which we were a key player..so a lot closer to home than some of the others..

as for being endlessly reminded? are we really? it wasnt the Jewish media that raised the subject on this site and I cant remember the last time it was front page news ............

The nazi's didnt invent the concentration camp Gedge, we even done it to the boers in South Africa, where the old men, women and children often starved to death.
