Before i start, this is a question not me looking for an arguement.
In reference to russ's thread on Black bikers, whilst replying to it i found myself writing disclaimers at the end that i was not racist etc and was scared that my view point be taken the wrong way.
This led me to thinking, has this whole PC thing that started in the 80's when i was at school and was rammed home to us every day that if we even mention the colour of so and so's skin then we are racist, left society sitting on a knife edge of being scared of what to say through fear of being branded a racist.
E.g. My dad's generation did not have this and struggles to come to terms with it at times, some of the things he says sometimes make me cringe and want to curl up in a ball and hide, i know he doesn't mean it with any malice and probably does it without even knowing, no one is offended and probably i am the only one who notices.
But again it draws me back to the whole thing of PC, has it gone to far?
Even when discussing issues like this down the pub i can't help thinking oh nope can't say that people will think i'm racist.
I don't feel like this when discussing other subjects, so why when discussing race? My own paranoia? But has this not been feulled by the whole PC thing in the 80's when baa baa black sheep was banned, and people weren't short they were vertically challanged, some PC stuff is laughable but some of it i think has had some long lasting negetive effects.
What's your views?
I know this is long and i apologise, but i wanted to try to put my point of view across in as much detail as possible.
