Harley or Triumph?

Bugger,

Here I was all ready to get a new Speed Triple when the house was sold, and then what do I read in yesterdays MCN, a nice big Harley (Street Bob) in my price range.

So now I'm gonna have to wait untill 06 to have a test on the Harley.
So which do I go for?
Apart from the dubious name what do Harley owners think of the Dyna range?

Don't know how you can compare a bike that goes around corners, stops and is quick with a pile of American poo.

You don't deserve a Trumpet, get your tassles and a Hog.

Remember to lubricate your sprockets, this one needs Ale not Oil.

The Triumph will depreciate like water running down a drain - the residuals on tidy Harleys are high. They seem to distort basic economic theory - but there you go.

Sensible money goes on the Harley.

Looks good too.

I'd take the Harley - why?

They're an acquired (if expensive) taste but in their own way are a lot of fun. Like FJ says, depreciation is very low and the list of things you can do with them (cue 'pushing off a cliff' comments from the Powerangers of course ) is almost endless. Just don't get suckered into the H.O.G. thang - it's sad with a capital Ser.

Try one - sit back and chill out. It's a great antedote to tearing around with your arse on fire. And they can be ridden quite briskly once you get used to them.

Oh...Street Bob demo's are available in several dealers. I'm taking one out in a couple of weeks

Dynas are the better handling of the Harleys - the basic entry level 'un that looks like a big Sportster (if you squint) is actually quite a fun bike: Had one on test a few years ago and had quite a lot of fun playing with sportsbikes up the A606 with it after picking it up - by resting your foot on the back brake, you can keep the bouncy back end under control a lot better, and you can absolutely nail it away from the lights 'cos you can't flip it no matter how hard you try.

Hmmm some food for thought.

To be honest I hadn't given the depreciation issue any thought, I either ride 'em into the ground or pass them onto the wife when I want a new one.

Both bikes represent totally different ends of the spectrum for me, both I want to try.

I am leaning to the Harley, why, I don't know although I must bear in mind the price of my imaginary list of mods that'll need doing.

Keep it coming

The Harley.
Im waiting for triumph to do a replacement for the Blackbird then ill have one.(the ST is just too small for me)

Dyna engine on mine is fine (1340) and it chugs away nicely for what i want and need it to do.
The finish ive found to be very very good though mines never left wet.

I'm leaving on the five train
Don't ask me when I'm coming back again
I reckon it's only a matter of time
Before the law kick in the door
Mother I'm running out of change,
but I had to phone to let you know

They'll never take me alive....

I take it you've ridden a V-Max too?

i don't see how you can compare the 2 ??

a harley that weighs about 2 tonnes and has about 20 bhp and a naked muscle bike with loads of power and great handling?

i'd definitely go for the triumph. maybe it's different were you are, but triumphs always seem to hold their value very well when i've been looking round.

it's people like you that make people like me need medication!

not that expensive to liberate a few more ponies

less restrictive silencers (they don“t have to be offensive, just free flowing) or ideally, a 2 into 1 supertrapp system.

k&n filter in the original airbox, or a hypercharger

you WILL notice the difference with just those changes

be realistic - demand the impossible

I think you have to ask yourself what kind of riding you like to do.

Most of the people around here who own Harleys are fucking assholes. Strange thing though, as most of the American owners I've met are life long Bikers and are usually pleasant people. I guess it's mostly people who fall into fads around here who buy Harleys.

Do yourself a massive favour and steer well clear of both makes.
