As from January, NTL will be charging 1p a minute or £5 a month to use their internet. Now wasn't that a good marketing ploy? They make it 'free' to get everyone interested then stuff on a price tag.....

It just so happens that their broadband costs £15 a month with free installation before xmas. Surprise, surprise......

Broadband £15 a month and free installation. You can't go wrong. That is giving it away. I think I just found me another xmas present for myself. Thank me very much

The £15 per month is for the 128 connection not the 512. The 512 is £27 a month.

And the 'free' installation is for 'a selected few', according to the salesman.

Shame they never got me on their billing system innit.

NTL are over 19 billion in debt. Yep, billion not million.

To start to turn a profit they are concentrating on keeping existing customers and not to take on any new ones. Hard luck if you work in their marketing department.

Also, NTL have worked out that they need to extract 50quid per month out of each customer by getting you to take more services.

That being said, I know a couple of people who have cable modems and the installer did not do the paperwork correctly and so they don't get billed for it!!!

I changed to NTL for the free internet. Only got it in September!

One of the guys at work suggested the 128kb connection for £15 a month, but I have to buy a cable modem for £150 and I can't afford that.

Are there any other options?

Hey Calm down People!!

Read the NTL Website:

Broadband comes in two different forms:

512K Modem (Fast as.....) Free installation, Free Modem, £24.00 per month no extra cost. No call charge or anything.

128K Modem (Fast) Free Installation, Free Modem, £14.00 per month no extra cost. No call charge or phone bill.

Ntl Dial up network = 5p connection fee and 1p per minute to use the net.

Answer Switch to Broadband and you can be on 24/7 for £24.00 or £14.00 per month

Before anyone asks.....NO ... I do not work for NTL.

I have Broadband, Cable and telephone and have had for a number of years (Broadband is new, but the rest has been in a while) and I am well happy with it.

you can buy the modem, and it will knock a fiver a month of your rental price.

you have to buy the modem that they approve, you cannot buy one from a cheaper supplier.

the 12Kb connection will probably be quite good, as long as you don't have to ring their support lines.

I've not heard anything about this at all .
Like other people, the fact that the internet service is free is the only reason why I joined up to ntl in the first place, because I'm online so much of the time.
If they start charging they'll probably lose more customers than they will profit from the charges.

I is not fucking impressed

Storm m8y, I've gone through the NTL web site in some detail. There's nowhere that it says you get the free cable modem with this package. Otherwise I'd have jumped at it.
