Took less than this to start a revolution in France not so long ago. The rich/poor divide is getting larger, and the average joe at the bottom of the ladder are soon never going to be able to climb it because of all the shit rolling down the hill. The really rich have more money than they could ever want, nevermind actually spend, and the really poor struggle to put food on the table.
The government quite honestly couldn't give a fuck about the future for young people, and care more for getting their mates on the job creation bandwagon to piss our money up the wall. This isn't a dig at Labour, as they are all a bunch of useless yes men. Corruption in politics is rife, yet constantly overlooked.
There isn't really a lack of work in this country, but there are a lack of meaningful careers to get into. Years ago there were apprenticeships, small businesses, trades. Stuff to get into, and with work and determination, job prospects for the future. Now our industries have melted away because the wage bill is too high to cover the costs of living, and we are being undercut by other nations. Nowadays everything is outsourced to China, and imported by Tesco, for us to dig ourselves a deeper hole.
Our current generation of adults are mostly being shipped off to university, to undertake pointless mickey mouse subjects, become underwhelmed in debt before they have even started, only to become managers in chains for faceless companies.
Not sure if I feel this bitter because I am living in a tourist town, but it really depresses me to be barely breaking even just to live. The job choices where I live are only unskilled.
- Stacking shelves in Tesco
- Answering phones in call centres
- Serving drinks and food in a pub or restaurant
- Cleaning
So many people in my age group 18-25 can't face a pointless existence working their arses off just to break even on living costs, and sign themselves on the dole and declare themselves homeless. This is such a waste, not only of the working tax payers money, but of the potential of these young people could of had if only there was something worth doing.
I'm trying to give life a go being self employed, but it is a constant struggle. At times I feel like giving up, but that would involve losing my pride, my home, my family and probably my life. Not so long ago one parent would be able to stay at home and dedicate themselves to raising their children, and the other would work, and there would still be enough money for nice things like holidays and savings accounts.
How would you go about making a difference for the next generation? Or don't you give a shit, and would rather buy up flats and houses to rent them out at the take home pay for someone on the minimum wage.
