I think Will Young has a pretty good shot at it - but most of the effect is just because its such a good song. But I agree that nothing compares to the Doors version. (Played it to my kids the other day, as they had no idea it was a cover version. They think the original is "prehistoric")

The Doors were a bunch of arse fronted by an even bigger self-obsessed arse. Their music was arse and only arses listen to it.

Will Young also has arse in his description, but used in quite a different manner.

lol

There's a small group of kids where I work, being brought up on The Doors, Black Sabbath, Nazareth, Led Zepelin, Slayer, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society, Offspring, Green Day & Queen.

ok, I let them off the Queen coz they're teenagers .... they're supposed to be 'deviant' lol

Listen to the Doors stuff today...and a lot of it is very over indulgent nonsense.
However, unless you were there in the Sixties when it was happening then you won't understand.

I agree, take a fantastic song performed brilliantly by one of the best front men ever and then "honour" it with a girly limp-wristed pile of shite. Wills Light my fire? I'd like to shove a stick of dynamite up his arse and light that.

I disagree - a great deal of the material still stands up today. "People are strange", "This is the end", "Crystal Ship", "Love her madly", "Hello, I love you", "Love me two times" just to name a few!

I dont get it, the doors were overated crap in the first place lead by a pissed up driveling twat who thought he was a poet backed up by crap lapdogs

If they were so crap why did you bother reading the biography?

They were very accomplished musicians and Morrison was 1) a great front man and 2) a great singer. Yeah some of the lyrics stink, but his stuff's far, far superior to today's pop €œmusic" 90% of which is either some thicko school drop-out rapping "I want to fuck you" over the top of someone else's song or a bunch of talentless teeny boppers miming to someone else's song whilst performing a twee synchronised dance routine. Gimmie the Doors anyday.

Sounds a bit dubious! Surely you either like a group or you don't? Can't see the point of in-depth research coz if you don't like 'em, you don't like 'em. Reading a book ain't gonna help!

eh? Im not with you here

do you say a bike is crap just by looking at it for example?

I wont pass judgement on anything until I know as much about it as I can

as for the media of which you understand something is irrelevant, read , listen, its all the same

I liked them and Ray Manzarek (keyboard player) put out some acceptable solo efforts afterwards. My favourite Doors song is a lesser know tune called "20th Century Fox."

They were doing stuff on stage that groups do now which people think is outrageous. I just wish people would look at history more often and realize there's nothing really new and avant garde any more.

Not knocking the Doors DM...I've got all their stuff!
What I mean is that youngsters today may find it difficult to relate to, as the world has changed a lot...and not for the better.
Jim Morrison was an icon, plus he had a totally distinctive voice which immediately seperated The Doors from their contemporaries at the time. The strange thing is that he's more famous now than he ever was in the Sixties.
My personal fave of that era was Hendrix! Never equalled!

Mrs Dirty demands that I only play Hendrix when she's not here or I'm using headphones The felines don't like him either
