Scooter riders never crash. You should wear shorts.
15/08/2002 at 13:26
not particularly safe, but you can get armoured jeans, or jeans lined with kevlar if you are worried!

Its no good looking for the needle if you have already lost the thread.

up to 0mph

you'll still skin your knee if you fall over stationary !!

I know it's HOT in leathers, but you'll be glad if something nasty happens.....

plus you can get the missus to peel the sweaty leather pants off you !!!!......ooooo

If my bike fell over on me and I dodn't get outta the way, I would expect a bit of a skinning of something if I was clad in jeans.... I expect

not having done so (in jeans) I can't comment from personal experience tho...

...and how embarassing would that be? Felled by a box of manilla envelopes, 2 biros and a stapler.

just wondered cos wastegate used to ride in jeans all the time, and when he was 20 fell off every other week, but miraculously, it seems, he escaped injury and his jeans never holed.

Perhaps they don't make them like they used to then?

been there, done that (running rather than walking), pushing a bike to bump start it while the rider was sat on it. I had a bruise, but no abrasions. hth

Perhaps he didn't really crash and that was just his excuse for standing you up every couple of weeks.

"Hello Rita, can't come round this evening, I've er..... um...... er.......ah! ....I've fallen off my bike again"
"Again Keith, are you hurt?"
"Nah, the jeans protected me, you can't see a mark on me"

You're gullible Reets, you'll be telling me you believe men went to the moon next!

Haydn, he had bruises which he hid from his parents, but yeah, I bet his mum imagined it too when he fell off in front of her car.

Please don't presume to tell me what to believe.

If you can keep your head when all around are losing theirs, it's just possible you haven't grasped the situation.

Riding wearing denim is perfectly safe up to any speed - what happens if you fall off is the problem...

FWIW I survived a 70 mph spill in denim and a waxed cotton jacket - with just minor grazes. Sure if I had been wearing leather I wouldn't have got them. But I think people are so hung up on the protective clothing thing - learn to ride safely and you will have less of a problem won't you?

Wear good gloves though....

One of the reasons for having a lining in leathers is so that, at the moment of impact, your skin doesn't 'stick' to the inside of the jean as it momentarily 'sticks' to the road surface. The little bit of give the lining provides is enough for the jean to start sliding on the road without your skin having to decelerate to 0mph while you're still moving inside it.

In short, you risk tearing your skin without a lining, even if the garment itself is unscathed at the end of your slide.
