A close friend is an MOT tester and has recerntly set up on his own, doing cage MOTs and basic repairs and told me the following.
For cars >1993/K, if a CAT is fitted, you can remove it and sail through an MOT because the CATS of this era were the first lot and 'unrealiable'. With all the cack that is bound to be clogged up in one by now on an early car, scrapping it for a decat pipe whne you need a new exhaust is probably a good move.
I don't have my MOT certificate to hand, but from memory I think even though my car has a CAT, the cat test box has N/A in it.
Also, does anyone know where the CAT is located on a ZX6R J model. I had section of the downpipes just before the end can cut off and replaced with a new s/s piece. Some sort of non moving valve like thingy used to live in that area of the original pipe. After the new straight through piece was fitted, the bike needed a couple hundred rpm more to pull off smoothly but never lost a bit of steam before the redline. It now just keeps trying to power its was past the limiter

. Not sure if that was the CAT or summat else.
