Hi all, I live in NZ, we recently had a cop convicted of dangerous driving because the twat did a U turn in front of two bikes, (both riders hospitalised, non life threatening injuries).  His defence was that he was turning around to chase their mate, and because they were speeding they couldn't stop in time to miss him,( these guy's get paid good money for this sort of expertise ). No jail time, but a fine & 100hrs community service. I'm sure all the boys & girls enjoyed having a cop along on their stoned weekend digging gardens at the local Old Folks home.

Sounds reasonable to me.  Amazed the cop got any punishment at all, or are you suggesting that the police should let people get away just in case there is some other speeding idiot approaching?

they should pursue in a manner that doesn't put bystansders at risk. And unless he has evidence these lads were speeding thats what they were.

If the cop was so sure they were speeding he must have observed them breaking the speed limit.

So if he did then why did he pull out in front of them?

Maybe it's a new policy, instead of bothering to chase them, catch them and go to all the bother of going to court let's just pull out in front of them and put them in hospital.

It's just possible that they were not visible when he looked and because they were travelling so fast hit him as he turned?

I know that won't fit with the 'all cops are ignorant bastards' that you might like - but I think it is feasible.

What happened to the on-board police video? Mysteriously vanished? I should imagine that police are hoping there are no witnesses. Not that I'm saying the police are all bumbling, incompetant fools. Just the ones I end up dealing with.

Having just had to strip my bike and put myself back together this week.... following a collision on sunday.... I would respectfully like to show my appauled view to a handfull of our great british traffic laws......

After the A3 driver in front of me, indicated the wrong way at a round about, speed off like he was on fire, then continue to pull left across the front of me and two fellow riders before exiting the roadabout, positioning himself bang infront of me..... bad enough?????? (split seconds later alowing no time for adjustment to speed)) He slammed his achors on to turn right......My bike and i end up sumersaulting through the air and landing upside down clear of his car which had already driven off.....

Can anyone quess what might have happened in this instance??????...... Lets see how many you guessed right........

 1. Ploice wouldn't even bother to attend.

2. Actually got a local resident having a go at me, accusing me of the wheels spins from the A3's roundabout departure and telling me i was obviously to close...... (bitch)

3. Driver said he didn't see me...... (never heard that one)

4. Got told by a local sergent that at best i could get a 50/50 but ultimatley this would be my fault...... (are they thick or something)........

5. The two witnesses could not be included because they are not independant......

6. Driver get off scot free, with only a tyre mark....

7. Bike trashed and paying for repairs myself to protect my no claims....

8. Police advised they would not really willing to persue an investigation or complaint because it probalby wouldn't go anywhere........

9. Screwed by the system that rapes me of 40% every month and replys with a big birdie.......

Who's on for marshal law for bike riders???????? ; )

mate, i feel your pain. Simialr happened to me, he drove off, I had 2 witnesses, one of whom had cctv on his workplace that he reckoned would have captured it, rang the police and no they wouldn't attend. I moaned like fuck till eventually a bobby came round to take statement but said it wouldn't be followed up as "it wasn't in the public interest"

bike and all my kit written off. Had to claim on my own insurance so goodbye hard earned 7 years NCB. Plus me kit weren't covered.

So you saw an Audi driving badly and still put yourself side-by-side with it on a roundabout and then managed to crash into it?  The police said it was 50-50?

Sounds like you are lucky.  As you clearly missed a whole bunch of signals that the driver was incompetent - but still rode into them.  BTW - you were too close - you crashed into another vehicle.

The Highway Code even says 'watch out for all other road users already on the roundabout; be aware they may not be signalling correctly or at all' (Rule 185).

Learn your lesson - be more careful and stop riding like a cock.

Is it just me , but this country seems to be going over the top and police can do what the hell they like . They talk about criminals , but there are a lot of criminals driving police cars today.

They say if you fail the attitude test at the road side then you will get hit with anything they can dream up . Is it not about time we have some sort of investigation unit that does spot checks on them .

I know there are lots of good cops out there , but they also know the wankers we are all talking about .
