Aargh, this is doing my head in. I know the answer, but can't do the working, and without the working I won't remember it for longer than about 5minutes.
I'll try and post a bike question later to make up for this thread

Anyway:

ab=(a-c)d

How do I rearrange it to give the answer in terms of c/a ?

I know the answer is

c/a=(d-b)/d

but I can't work out the steps on my own. I feel like i'm 15 again and the thought of not being able to ride a bike on the road for 2 years makes me feel
Can anyone do the working showing each rearrangement of the equation?

Wow, that compulsory re-test is a bastard, isn't it?

sorry, I could've done this anywhere from 4 to 7 years ago, but I very specifically un-learnt it after spectacularly failing my maths modules at uni.

ab= (a-c)d

ab=ad-cd

cd=ad-ab

cd=a(d-b)

c=a(d-b)/d

c/a=(d-b)/d

Whassitfor?

ab=(a-c)d

ab/d=(a-c)

b/d = (a-c)/a

b/d = 1 -c/a

... err ...

c/a=(d-b)/d

ab = (a-c)d

(ab)/d = a - c

b/d = 1 - c/a

c/a = 1 - (b/d)

c/a = (d-b)/d

Cheers mate I got about as far as banana boy..
I was trying to derive the bohr equation

Vt.PECO2=(Vt-Vd)PACO2 is pretty easy to remember if you need to know this kind of crap, and Vd/Vt is the shunt fraction. I just substitued abcd cos writing all the original terms down a million times was pissing me off. Bet you wish you'd never asked
