Except when sounding like a, or upside-down.

I feel your pain mate, we've all been there.

I have just fitted a new toilet seat and I did get quite confused using the same Righty tighty thing. Then I realised that I was doing it upside down.

Where are you? Why are you here? Look at this

fuk off

You just have to accept that riding a bike is like sex. Always approach it that it could be the last ride you ever have so give it all you've got, nail it from start to finish.

The righty lefty thing didn't help me with my exhaust. Where I put it on my engine it goes straight down but was upside down but I also could only move 1/4 of a turn and the spanner was at the bottom rather than the top so I ended up still going right to tight. All very confusing.

If it already had a Helicoil, is the thread for the Helicoil ok? Did you actually turn it the wrong way?!

25/11/2007 at 20:20
how many times can you helicoil the same threaded hole ?

hmmmm (popadop scratches his head)

dunno, now that you mention it.. i thought i was turning it the right way (that'll be lefty loosey), but thinking back i think i might have started it righty tighty, then thinking i was doing it wrong i started going lefty loosey

now, i've either gone righty tighty & pushed the helicoil down further & then when i relised that i was going wrong i started lefty loosey but leaving the helicoil too far down for the spark to reach its thread.....or my theory is wrong & i did go righty tighty at the start

in any case , i reckon its gonna be a £180.00 fixey (that's delayed my new bike by two months)

I don't go around praising up my bike or other so-called classics, but there really is something to be said for a cast iron cylinder head.

25/11/2007 at 22:54
why do you think it'll be £180 fix, take your bike to a local dealer and ask them to fit you a timesert big sert from wurth and it'll be done in 15mins in situ and wont come out unlike helicoil. hell if your prepared to pay £180 send me a pm and i should be able to sell you a kit for that price.

the bandit is dead.

it can be brought back to life, but with a second hand engine. i am looking for bike breakers & have contacted two.

engines are ranging between £275 & £350ish

i can get a new bike (on 0% finance)...but i am in two minds.

shall i spend £500ish on fixing a bike probably worth £600 & let it last me a few more years till i can afford a proper big bike ....or break the bitch up & sell bits on ebay & buy another £4000ish new bike<-----0n finance @ 0%.

decisions decisions

ps deej77

i will engire if it can be time sert(ed)....i don't think it can though.

i know that it can't be helicoiled twice.

b6 or b12?
You can get a b6 engine for about 50 quid or a 750 gixxer lump for less than 100

Alternatively take the head off and helicoil it yourself
But given that youve already destroyed a helicoil I wouldnt recommend it

TBH the head has to come off I dont see how you can helicoil/timesert a plug without dropping swarfe into the chamber

popadop you cant compare a helicoil to a tiomesert. HC only get you out the shit once where as a time sert is a permanent thread repair system and the big sert version can be used even on a fucked helicoil. trust me i sold it to a rally car specialist a month ago for that very reason. options there if you need it matey, yuo can either buy a set or see if a local bike dealer has a set, actually you might be better off trying a car garage
29/11/2007 at 20:10
timserts are done insitu and as along as you use the oil the swarf wont fall in. thats another benefit over helicoils
