I off on me hols(in september). So its Portugal for me this year and the Portuguese GP at Estoril.
I think the best ferry to use is the Plymouth-Santander crossing operated by Brittany Ferries its quicker than the P&O one out of Portsmouth.Do you agree.
I was planning on scooting:burnout: back up Spain and France to a channel port to get home, but Brittany ferries only takes 24 hours so I`m going to watch the GP at Estoril then loon about Portugal and Spain for the rest of the hol.I`ve always wanted to visit Madrid.

As I`ve not bought any maps yet does any one Know how long it takes/milage from Santander to Estoril .
Is it advisable top re-book accomadation near the cicuit or is there loads of hotels,b/b etc near the cicuit .
Are any of the bike mags offering discounted travel on this route.
A 14 day return with 2 berth cabin is £370 direct.
Thanks for any help or hints you can give, here have a drink.

we usually cross from Portsmouth to Le Harve, night crossing so u can have a drink and food. Docks at about 6ish am French time, you get all day to travell south. Comming back we go to Cherbourg and catch the seacat, about 2 1/2 hours return trip. Don't use motorways becuase N/E roads are very good and no tolls.

It is 1007km journey according to Autoroute 2002. It estimates about 11 hours should you have a clear journey, make short stops for fuel and not speed.

Fuel I can only guess at since it has a cage profile set for the journey.

Don't forget a bail bond as well as the green card for Spain

I think you need a companion on this tour.

Send me the tickets & I'll happily oblige.

There are other reasons to go Brittany Ferries:

1. The ride down through Devon is nice
2. Santander is close to brilliant roads and a much prettier place than Bilbao
3.Most importantly, it's French run. So the food is orders better, service better and the whole experience very pleasant indeed. Well worth a few extra quid over P & O

You won't get discounts from magazines, but it's possible to get a deal with Brittany Ferries going back on one of their French services......Portsmouth-Caen is pretty useful, cuts out the boring crap in Picardy & Nord

We were supposed to be doing this (the other way) last year, until I crashed

For a route, go to www.via-michelin.com. Loads of options, gives you a fullitinerary plus interactive map, local info, in fact the lot. Don't know why everyone doesn't use this route planner TBH, pisses all over some of the others

Visit it, get the "shortest" route from Santander to Estoril and check out some of the roads over the Cantabrian mountains

Excellent

Enjoy yerself

Did you know theres an early morning and late night crossinf on the 'Portsmouth Express' every day in summer. Portsmouth - Le Havre takes 90 mins.

Some triff roads in Spain. Enjoy the Picos de Europa on the way to portugal (just west of Santander). Make sure you do not book the reclining seats on the ferry, a further £50 each way is WELL worth it.

Madrid IMO is a dump, and did not appeal to me at all, still, horses etc.

Check your insurance documents. I did NOT need a green card OR a bail bond on my insurance (Frizzells). My own travel insurance covered me adequately for all eventualities (£50 RAC) and my breakdown recovery (Brittania Rescue) cost £35, and covered my bike as well as the RAC and the AA, who charged 50% more.

More importantly, have fun, and take a riding partner (pref on their own bike )
