<sigh>

Do a search, this question is aked once a week on here. You;ll find the same replies as always - to sum up, why bother with a big heavy bike, whose power delivery characteristics really aren't designed for and will not suit restriction to 33hp. Get a 500 twin / 400 / Goose / similar etc....

my mate had his zzr600 restricted due to his license, it didn't affect his acceleration only his top end (to about 110mph).

It didnt stop him from taking out the restrictors tho'

Roughly, 30hp will get you 100mph.

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

My Hornet is restricted 2 33BHP , It kills them, No point in revving it past 6k as it just was vibrating and didnt wanna do it, Accleration was very bad and topend is about 100mph, My RS125 which de-restricted kick out 30-33BHP was quicker!.

Listen to this man

Buy a bike that was designed to run at 33bhp rather than crippling a bike

There is also the fact that you cant be "tempted" to "accidently" derestrict it

I've got an SV 650 K5 and that is restricted, as it is the K5 model it is restricted by a Suzuki ECU (just plug in) and she run's like a good 'un.

Fantastic!

My Ural punts out a healthy 26bhp, so must be good for 87mph.

WoW. I've only had it up to 70 so far and that was, quite frankly, terrifying.

FWIW I know of a few "people" who have had Ducati 748s restricted.

It's just such a terrible idea, you end up looking like an idiot and the bike runs like poo.

I only noticed my 33bhp on a vfr400 while on the motorway or anywhere around 65-70+. Below that it ran ok, after that it ran crap.

Sorted it by derestricting it, ran perfect saw 130 on the speedo without a hiccup, although slightly naughty. Thank god my 33bhp days are over.

WTF? I had mine restricted to 49bhp on Tuesday when the f***er decided to run on one cylinder for half an hour.

Is not legal on an unrestricted licence as it fails the second criteria of power/weight ratio. So were you to find yourself up in front of the beak, that'd be no licence, no insurance, and a probably ban and retest.

Do not rely on anything I have said. Unless of course you have paid for the pleasure. Whereupon my insurance will sort out the mess.
But you can trust me not to blab it round the forum.

*cough* bullshit *cough*

It would affect acceleration because 33bhp doesn't get you there as quick as whatever it makes unrestricted.

Thanks for the help, its just if i get a 400 supermoto or somthing like that i dont want to have to buy another bike in two years or less if you see what i mean???

I'll tell you after the weekend if I can remember. I'm picking up my GF's 'new' restricted CBR 400 and riding it the 100 miles home.

I've ridden an un-restricted version before, so I should be able to give you a pretty good idea what the difference is.

Also, someone might want a larger or more comfortable bike for touring. There are good reasons to restrict a more powerful bike to 33hp.

Personally, I'd take a rule of thumb that anything much over 55hp won't restrict very well. And obviously, the lighter the weight of bike the better. That more or less equates to one of the 400/4s, or a twin up to, say, 650cc, or most singles.

The only thing that would make me nervous about restricting a supermoto would be that given the thing's designed for fun and hooliganism, whilst being fiendishly uncomfortable and impractical, that you'd lose the fun but of course retain the disadvantages.

I derestricted my CB-1 400 (detuned CBR motor). It makes about 45-50bhp unrestricted. Mine ran fine restricted, although it didn't run well with the choke on, hence sometimes dodgy cold starting. Only really made a difference to the bike at all above about 9,000rpm. Although that is where you'll need to be for anything fun to be going on.
