I Have just past my test and iam restricted to 33bhp{Doh!!!!}
Any info on what bikes i can have i want a sporty looking bike but not with the riding position as i dont like leaning to far to the hadlebars{wouldn't mind a ducati 998 though}
Any help will be much appreciated
P.S. io was looking at a suzuki 650sv?????

SV650 sounds like a good un for you

Its no good looking for the needle if you have already lost the thread.

The SV should be a pretty good choice for restriction, comparatively lots of torque without the loss of top-end you'd experience with 4s. Not too much difference between a restricted/full power one until you start approaching 3-figure speeds, so I'm told. The downside might be high insurance, being that you're a new rider.

Other twins might be worth a look, GPZ500, CB500, and even a GS500E if you see one cheap.

Yes, and if you put on a race exhaust it might up the power to 33 bhp

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Or as Friedrich Nietzsche put it, "In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule."

400 Bros doesn't even need restriction. Decent ones go for under a grand, fair turn of speed for an *old* bike and that good 'ol v-twin charcacter.

Trail bike? I have a DRZ converted to a motard, best thing i could think of. It don't 'arf wheelie too.

what about a 400 sports, and have it restricted. if you buy the bike cheap, then you can afford to spend the cash insuring it.

i won't lose to much power restricting a 998 will i?
might get a 999 actually

Yes. Why buy something new and plastic you will possibly drop and definitely lose loads of money on whilst strangling it?

Seems pretty pointless to me. Buy an old knacker, you'll have plenty of fun and save yourself £loads

a 400 sounds good but iam over 6ft tall and do over 30 miles a day all year so comfort is important to me

The faired SV might be too small for you. Seriously.

I agree. I'm 6 foot with a 32 inch inside leg and I find the SV's pegs high, although I've got used to them I wouldn't like to do any real distances on it. Since I only ride around London, I'm forever stopping and putting a foot on the ground so my legs/knees don't get very stiff.

I'm comfortably 6 foot & I commute daily on my SV. Sure, it's small but I wouldn't say it's cramped (adjust the position of gear & rear brake levers and it's fine). Plus it'll be easy to get yer feet down in a hurry which is useful in traffic. I've managed 300 miles in a day (fairly) comfortably - gets a bit painful after that though.

A Bros or Bandit 400 would probably be cheaper to crash though (less plastic) , if you're that way inclined but falling off isn't compulsory, even for a beginner. Or even a naked SV - doesn't have the 'sports' clip-on handlebars so has a more upright riding position.

Don't touch a GPZ500. They're for short arses.

I just rode my GFs from London to Bristol and nearly broke my fekin back.

I'm 6 ft. The pegs are way too far forward so I have to fold myself in two to get on it. End up with my knees above the level of my arse. Not good.

I've seen peeps buying brand new R6s and restricting them?!?!?!

Traillie might be the way to go. Drop well and you might not even have to restrict it, depending on the model.

So your after a sports bike that is comfortable for a 6+ fter, restricts well and cheap to insure.

To be honest I don't think such a bike exists.

All the 400cc sports bikes are pretty much out - they're designed to be for compact people
Any bike producing more than about 65BHP wont restrict well (if your honest). twins restrict well as so do singles.

I would consider...
BMW F650
transalp
Faired CB500
Diverson

I do prefer the un-faired version but it is very annoying i might just get a little run around as im 21 in april and then get a bigger bike.
i wanted the suzuki so i could ride that for a while then when i hit the grand old age of 21 take the restricter off but the problem is comfort as 80% of the time i will be using the motorway for work..and i ride all year so i want some wheather protection:burnout:
30/09/2002 at 15:56
If you only have to wait until April then it might be worth restricting, dpends on ins really. And try the SV for size, you might be OK and it probably restricts quite well

Without wishing to state the obvious, ya know you're gonna have to take another test to have the restrictors off, don't ya? It's not just a question of age

Apologies if you knew that, it just doesn't read that way
30/09/2002 at 16:04
i didn't know that the test centre{won't say who} said that if i take my test i can ride up to 33bhp then when im 21 go straghit to any size one ummm
