33bhp - The definitive guide

OK, so there have been enough threads on here about whether or not to stick to the 33bhp rule for the full 2 years. So I thought maybe a better way of knowing what people really think on this issue is to find out what people have done. And for DAS people, there is the speculative option. Be honest, be open and we might get some idea of how acceptable it is or isn't to ride around without strictly complying to your licence - according to the VD crew at any rate.

Passed before there was DAS or 33bhp limits etc.

You've not given me an option

What he said

Twice round the block + emergency stop = Kawasaki Z1

Yawn! It's wearing a little thin now, don't you think?

Me too.

Of the couple of people I know on restricted licences one did stick to it and one didn't.

Isn't that the same as DAS?
If so... tell what you WOULD have done

Nah, 'tis different.

I bought a CB350S as a first bike after passing the restricted test...so you could say i stuck to the 33bhp for about 9 months.........then i bought an RF600.....and then 6 months later bought a zx7-r (both full power). I did have the RF restricted at the dealership but got home and whipped the restrictors out the carbs

To be honest i would've probably killed myself going from a CG125 to a zx7 straight away so i'm glad i had the chance to get used to the CB and 33bhp, before i jumped on higher powered bikes.

Of course .
I'm gonna sell my bike and spend almost twice as much on a new bike with twice the capacity, three times the power and the same weight, just to go from a top speed of 100mph to 110 .

The DVLA must think we're fucking idiots .

i just filled out an online mortgage application to test something. I just received a phone call from a mortgage broker: "Hi, I'd like to speak with, um, Mr Testy McTest..."

That isn't made under licence in Spain and has far more torque and is therefore more useable and quicker in actual every day riding situations

I've never owned or considered owning a bike that's made under licence in spain.
Both my bike and its replacement are manufactured in Italy .

I don't see the relationship between bikes, spain and sleep .
Not that I sleep easy at night anyway .

Ah? So what's accelerated access then... and can I get it? (at 17)?

No, you can't. It's what happens if you pass twenty one before your two years are up. So rare that you'd be guaranteed to confuse the examiner if you turn up to do one.
03/04/2005 at 12:06
You could just do your test, ride full power, and then tear the restriction certificate up when your two years pass .

That's a great idea unless you get involved in a serious accident, when your bike will be examined and you'll be bending over for Bubba for some time. Otherwise, yeah, fine in an socially irresponsible way.

That's another argument for making sure that such "serious" accidents are serious indeed .
Bubba would have to be a necrophiliac.

Socially irresponsible or what?
