2 strokes are good motors for scooters (no mileage) and sports bikes that you rev the hell out of and don't mind rebuilding every few thousand miles.

Wouldn't want a 2 stroke on a big road bike, fun yes, but hardly tractable.

It'll all be irrevelant in a few years, they'll get banned for being too dirty.

4 stroke without a doubt but 2 strokes smell the best

2-stroke for a laff

4-stroke for reliablility, fuel consumption, etc.

I love 2 strokes (noise/smell/liveliness)but will be getting a four stroke next for reliability, torque and fuel economy.

2stroke loads 'o' street cred, 4stroke has everything else. depends which 2/4stroke you have where looks are concerned.

Shit Happens

Back on 2 wheels and loving it :burnout:

My instructor once said that he got more smiles per mile from a YPVS than any other bike.

I'm inclined to agree with him. Theres nothing like it.

I like em both, but four strokes, cc for cc produce a lot less torque than two strokes. Two strokes have the potential to produce about twice the power (and torque) of fourstrokes, but at the obvious cost of reliability. A 350 2-stroke will easily produce more torque and power than a 350 4-stroke, if both were using similar carbs and engine configurations. But four strokes do seem to have more street cred

Hmm never riden an RG500 then SM. A well set up RG will still make mincemeat out of an SV or just about most midrange sports bikes if ridden well.

However their impossible to live and blowup quite often if not treated with the up most respect. But hey no bikes arent meant to be practical if I had wanted practical I would have bought a bloody hairdressers car wouldnt I

SM has degenerated to crass criticisms in the absense of any quasi debates to monopolise.

Seems a shame that the japanese and others have given up on the two stroke, due to environmental pressure from the US government and their euro lackies. We're even getting 4-stroke crossers now

They seem to have done a good job in convincing the public that 4-strokes are somehow better, when infact 2-strokes are ideal for motorcycles, not only lighter (no valves etc.) but also can (and do) produce far more power (and hence torque) than 4-strokes, although they do produce more pollution (save the whale boohoo).

An NSR500V4 produces about 190hp without using a turbo or nitrous, doubt any 500cc 4-stroke could get near that.

But I guess I'll keep buying those feable nice and clean 4-strokes

2 stroke is more fun! My 26 year old RD ran a 14.9 second quarter mile at pod last year which is not bad to say its standard bar K&N filters and allspeed replica pipes, plus it had a problem with one of the coils crapping out at high RPM! Rics road RD400 has run a 13.4second run at 95mph and the drag RD makes in excess of 80hp and has run 10.27@127.4mph! Not bad eh?
BUT for comfort reliability and fuel economy its gotta be a 4 stroke......

I'm not as green as I am cabbage-looking, you know.....

2 Stroke all the fekking way, more smiles to the gallon than anything else. Only need rebuilding often if tuned, thrashed, run on crap oil etc.

SM I take it you have no idea what you are on about?

I have come to the conclusion that the evil goth SV 650 is the first and only bike SM has ever owned or ridden.
Every time he joins into a thread it is with very single minded comments , nearly allways negative or contradictory , but it has to be said very well written.

Most of his replys , if you read them closely sound very much like the views of a "new biker" , nothing wrong with being new but sometimes it's better to sit back and listen.

I ride a 748 just now but my last bike was an Aprillia RS 250 and I can safely say it was the best handling , most fun bike I have ever owned. Even though it only had 60 bhp compared to the 100 odd I have now you can't beat the way the power comes in on a two stroke.

The last half dozen bikes I owned before the 250 were all 600cc or more , I was racing an RGV at the time so I thought it would be a good idea to ride the same thing on the road and it was even more fun than I thought it would be.

If you want a touring bike or a commuter , yes a four stroke is probably better in the long run , but for performance you cannot beat a 2 stroke (ask Mick or Valentino) and before I get flamed because of the changes to the rules in GP's , wait and see , the diesels are yet to prove themselves.
