Not sure how you mean "how did I achieve" it? The angle is 38degs, which is based on the angle my old chassis was. That angle was already set when I bought the old chassis and then rebuilt it. I ran up to 130mph with no stability problems, so used the same angle for this one (even though it might top 150mph in the 1/4mile!). As far as achieving it for the purpose of building the chassis, the guy uses a frame jig that has an adjustable mandrel that holds the headstock. You then weld every to it!

More info on the Cheetah barrels is here. Lots of barrel pics and some dyno charts. Not sure what size they dynoed there as you can get them in any size from 350cc upwards. The Cubs got to at least 440cc and the full blown Cheetahs (with CR250 reeds and slide PV's) go well over 550cc!

Here's a better view of the mounts:

Yup, lots of room to work on the engine and the mounts make pulling the motor out a breeze. Had too many bikes with welded on mounts that require 10 minutes of jiggling to get the engine in place. Eventually I'll probably put a pressurised airbox round the carbs too, another reason for all the space above motor!

OK, I'll play along.

This first picture is my friend's bike. It is a 1988 or 89 Honda NSR 250 with a KTM 550 cc two stroke single cylinder engine transpant. It was his race bike for many years. We are currently in the middle of upgrading its appearance. He has purchased some modern looking body work from Tyga, which we will paint in orange KTM colors to look like the bike in the second picture. The last two pictures are of my own two stroke project. It too is a KTM 550. After riding his bike, I had to have one, and since I love supermotos, I had to have a 550 supermoto!

Sorry Ric, I did not phrase that very well I was just interested how the angle of 38degrees was arrived at. Whether it had been a trial and error measurement or some shrewd computer programme that gave the optimum rate angle for the length of fork (hope that makes sense) I know what you mean about the frame space. The early steel framed TZ's score very well when it comes to removing an engine.
The pipes are held on by one bolt and two springs. Then just remove the plugs and carbs followed by two bolts on the rear suspension linkage and one bolt at the front, and the engine lifts straight out without hitting the frame rails. Ten minutes or so on my own and the engine is out.
Sadly the ACU ruling for exhaust mounting has now changed and the exhausts now have to be secured in two places plus the springs, plus lockwire through the springs. Since when has an exhaust system ever fallen off a TZ. And even if it did, it would only rest on the belly pan!

What paint finish if any are you putting on the frame?

P.s I still think that you are mad!!

Backdrifter, that is a very nice bit of kit..

Right, yes it was trial and error. Or rather trial and no error! If you check my site and look at the 14 Steps bit, you can see the old frame as it came with it already raked out. It worked, so I stuck with the numbers. I did do some calcs though to ensure I had enough trail for stability. I've seen some raked out like 45degs and they look wanky IMO, like they been dropped from a great height or snapped in the middle.

Paint? No paint, it's all excess weight! The finish is as you see it, I'll just use ACF50 to keep rust at bay. I found paint looked tatty after a couple of meetings and was hard to keep looking good.

Me mad? I'm not the one who races round corners in the wet! Straight and dry - nice and safe!
