Canadian sensation Brett McCormick had been touted as a potential BSB rider with Relentless by TAS Suzuki but has now penned a deal with BMW Canada for the 2011 Parts Canada Superbike Championship.
The last time McCormick raced in Canada was in 2009 and as a 17-year old he won four of seven superbike races that season, setting lap records at every circuit. And, remarkably, all of the records remain.
McCormick’s spokesman Mike Moloney told MCN: “Brett remains every bit as keen to develop a career in British Superbike as the natural stepping stone to world level.
"He and his manager/father Grant are planning to attend one of the early BSB rounds, possibly Oulton Park. Of note is the fact that Brett has already been offered a ride with a BSB Supersport team and a testing opportunity with a BSB superbike team
"Brett’s burgeoning reputation is such that every superbike signing in Canada had been put on hold until Brett made his decision for the coming year.”
McCormick is returning to race in the Canadian national series after competing for the 2010 season in the AMA Superbike series with the Michael Jordan Motorsport Team.
The 19-year old from Saskatoon has a wealth of racing experience for such a young rider, including almost five years of racing superbikes at an elite level.
McCormick was a surprise tester at the annual press tests just after the final WSB round of the 2009 held in Portimao where McCormick was lucky enough to test the S1000RR of Troy Corser wearing borrowed riding gear of then BMW Motorrad factory rider Ruben Xaus.
“I’m very pleased and obviously excited to join the BMW Motorrad family in 2011,” said McCormick.
“BMW is a great company with a history of excellence and I’m looking forward to helping the team make major inroads in the 2011 superbike season.
“I’ve had the privilege of sampling the S1000RR in WSBK trim, so I know with the superb team we have in Canada we’ll be able to put on a great show and hopefully bring a Superbike Championship to BMW.”
